I am planing a trip to New York City. I have never been there. If you live or have ever been there where do you suggest I visit? My kids are traveling with me also.

You didn't say when you were planning your trip, but if it is around Christmas time, it is really beautiful. Rockefeller center in the winter is lovely, with the big tree and the ice skating. I do not know your religion, but St Patrick's cathedral is another beautiful site to see. Times square with all of the lights stores and eateries. There are plenty of double decker tour buses. I can guarantee you won't have a WHAT TO DO moment, there are so many things to see and do. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself.

i have been to NY a couple of times. I suggest you visit the ff if you have enough time. These are worth seeing.
1. Central Park - especially in summer, i was there during winter and the only thing you could see and appreciate is the skating rink. other than that everything is covered with snow.
2. Empire state building, esp. in the evening, life of NY city is breathtaking.
3. Times Square
4. If you have time take a ferry and see Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
5. Lots and lots of Museums....
so far these are my top fives that must see and famous in NY. have a nice trip !

Since the kids are going, they will probably love Toys R Us. It's HUGE. There are several floors and even a ferris wheel. You can't miss it since it's in Times Square.
One of the places I always recommend and that my friends also like is Ellen's Stardust Diner. They have a singing waitstaff and something for everyone on their menu. And I don't think it's all that pricey, like some of the other places. It's not very big and there are times you want to avoid it, like weekend nights or when the shows let out.
There are all kinds of tours you can do, like sightseeing, movie or tv sites, etc. They have something for everyone.
If you look around on the internet, you might be able to find coupons and discounts you can use. The last time I went, my friend and I bought the Entertainment Book and saved some money that way. Of course, we didn't use all the coupons but what we did use more than paid for the book.
Also, you can go ahead and buy tickets on the internet for things like the Empire State Building. Then you don't have to wait in line when you get there.
As someone said, there's a lot to do. You might find that you won't be able to get to do everything you wanted to!
