The most important thing which defines the Matrix movie is the bullet-time effect. This was one of the most awesome effects during it's time. This is what made the Matrix stand out. Then of course there was the story. It makes you wonder after watching, what if there really is something beyond this current life I'm living now? What if this life is all an illusion?

I agree. The first Matrix movie was actually unorthodox in all its rights. It was actually a low budget film, and with a virtually yet-unknown animator who came up with the revolutionary concept of bullet time. I also love the philosophy aspect of the trilogy, and how each character is bound to one philosophy and actually living it. For example, the Merovingian was a staunch proponent of the causality school of thinking, while the Oracle is -- despite the ability to see into the future -- a believer that everyone can create their own future including herself.

That's a hardcore insight! When I think about it again, it is really deep and philosophical!

I think one of the major components of the movie is whether we really have a choice in what happens to us, or whether it is already planned/mapped out for us at birth. I also think that it makes you believe that you can do more than you truly believe you can.

The most important feature of this movie is the innovative use of still cameras in shooting movies. And not to forget the very lovable bullet time was also introduced in this movie. All the scenes with bullets are just awesome. And my favorite Dodging Bullets
