Many discussions get in to the appropriate age for people to have children. It seems like the majority of these discussions are focused on people who are too young that are having children. But what about older adults? For the most part, I don't think you can be too old if you want to have children. But, if you're old enough that you are likely to miss out on a majority of your child's life, should you have a child?

life has changed so much over the last few decades and people are living longer and the term life begins at 40 has long gone out of the window. For those who don't know, its because in the old days you had your children in your late teens/early twenties so they are ready to fly the nest when you get to the age of about 40. Child bearing was finished by the time you were 30, sometimes 25. And if you had a late baby wow the looks you got. I know when I was at school a freind's mum looked like my Nanna!!
Now its all been turn around and women have more chance of a career before having babies, but the clock does slow down and some women to find it hard to become preggie in there late 30's etc, because the clock is slowing down and if you have been on the pill you have been telling your body for years no baby, and your body just can not turn around and say yes baby because you have stopped taking the pill.
I had children at the age of 25, 34, and then twins at 37.
There is a lady down the school who has four children, first one must be in the 20's. She had an accident and had her last baby at 42. I overheard her down the school saying good god, here I am at 42 and still pushing a buggy! She does look like a granny.
I think late 40's is too old, I'm now 45 and joke we could have just one more, but I wouldn't really want to start all over again. Early 40's maybe.
But I do think it is up to each and every one of us to decide but I don't think IVF shouldn't be allowed on ladies over the age of 40, but I may change my mind on that as we live longer and stay looking younger.
Its a confusing question as to how old is too old
