Smoking Bans hit universities!

United States

I read this article about the universities and their smoking bans, and part of the article discussed a criminal justice major having disregard for the ban. He is smoking anyway wherever he goes on campus. He said if they cannot enforce it, he will do it. How is that for a criminal justice major?

well... i think all he wants to do is just to challange the universities. as in, if you say it, but are unable to renforce it, what is the use if setting the ban in place at first? maybe all he wants the university to do is to just see if they will do what they say they will. if you say it, but dont implement it, there will be no use, right?

For a Criminal Justice student, that is not very bright. I don't think he would make a good cop or detective...or probation officer.

actually,i think he will be a rather good one, in fact... because if you actually witness how people actually take steps to implement laws and how often they follow the rules. what do you think?

Without enforcement, there will always be someone around willing to break the rules, and see how far they can go. The sate of Ohio has a smoke free workplace law that makes it illegal to smoke in bars. Not surprisingly, there are still people smoking in bars. I am surprised that a university student can do it without some sort of penalty.

That is what I don't understand...why we have laws that are not enforced.

He's got a good point, especially for a criminal justice major.

I think so...if we can't trust people who are supposed to uphold the law...what to do, what to do...
