I am sorry but I think our government really needs to step back and look at all the bad things that have been sent to our country...Someone in China just poisoned my toddler son." This is the thought that flashed through my mind as I read in the New York Times about the latest recall of products from China—this time it was Thomas the Tank Engine toys that were painted with lead paint.
In the last few months, we have seen at least 50 people in Panama die from medicine manufactured in China. Dogs and cats in the United States died from contaminated Chinese pet food. Toothpaste manufactured in China was recalled —the main ingredient of antifreeze had been used as a sweetener. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese-made tires were recalled after two deaths were blamed on the manufacturer for not building the tires according to specifications. The FDA banned fish raised in China because they contained cancer-causing drugs.
And these are just the scandals that have made the front pages lately. In fact, these scandals are not exceptions—they are part of a way of doing business. For instance, Chinese farmers often grow food for their families separately from what they sell on the market. Why? They want to keep their families safe.
How did China get to this point where human life is knowingly sacrificed in order to make extra profit? When are we going to wake up and close the trade until all this can stop?????

Have you ever heard about Iraq?
I understand the concern, but that's a risk in dealing with other countries. Maybe we need to help our farmers out a little more, and show our appreciation for the good food the USA will produce for us....

Is this really true? I always believe that Chinese have higher regards towards health, they are very health conscious people, when this things came out, I thought someone is just trying to discredit China because of the Olympics and they knew how big the impact would it give to China, so they want to prevent the country from being big so they make issues to dis credit the country, but well, just another of my conspiracy theory.

Hi Mnflower,
Yes, I agree the world just keeps getting scarier. I don't think China has cared about people for a very, very long time. Any comunist country generally sees their citizens as well as other individuals are like ants that are only to be used, but of no importance and can be smashed without a second thought.
Yet, we buy all of these low priced things from China when we should be putting our own people to work to make quality products. And, all the money we are borrowing for the Iraq war and other things is coming from China. It seems soon they will just own us outright when we can't pay the billions and billions of dollars we owe them.
I like to think that our country still cares about it's people (I mean big business and the government). But, I'm just not so sure anymore or they wouldn't allow these things. I feel so sad not knowing where we will all end up. And especially where our children and grandchilrend will end up and what kind of a world they will be living in.
