I have recently had a laptop that has packed in completely ,and today the computer repair man has said to my nephew that his broken laptop is not able to be repaired. It seems to me that Laptops are far more fragile than desktop computers, have any of you found this so ???

Hi ruby..I think you are right although that is what I now have..they seem to be so full of technology that goes into a computer that it makes them exra sensitive to all sorts..I do have another one and it is a really good one but it picks up everything eg tojans etc though has a good anti spyware and is so senstive to all sorts so you are right..desktop computers I think are more reliable...littleowl

Hi pikeee and ruby on this laptop I use the McAfee anti virus and it was the people who sold me the laptop that put it on here but also I am prescribedd to a company called the geek squad and if you have a problem they take over your laptop screen and sort it out..they are excellent!! My other laptop has Kaspersky anti-virus but even though its the full version it still seems to pick up all sorts so haven't downloaded anything on it which at first I did but got that sorted out now will have to take that one back and get it sorted out again...its a nuisance as it won't eveen connect to the internet..so its not as if I have treated that one badly but when it is sorted I'll probably get it insured with the geek squad at least then I'll have peace of mind that they will sort it out for me...hugs littleowl

Talking anti virus, which one do you both use then,I use the Mc Affeee one here ,but the only thing is that it makes the computer so slow to oad up,and im wondering if thats common with an anti virus.but in this day and age you cant afford to be without one,it just wouldnt make sense, your pc could be hacked into, and that would be terrible.

Yes you have to have all of the anti virus protection on it as you do on a desk top computer, but the only thing is that when you go to buy one you could do with taking an expert with you,or at the very least someone who knows what they are buying lol this laptop isnt very old and when I went tobuy it the salesman haad me tied in knots with all the technological talk!

Yes you were right laptop need a special care rather than the regular Desktop Computer for it is very light and for that I reason I always put it in the computer bag if it is not in used and put it in the safe place in which my daughter cannot reached it........

I was at the Macarthur glen shoppig outlet earlier this week and I popped into Antler, the leather shop, and if you are going anywhere near an Antler leather shop then you need to go in and take a peep at their sale goods, well the laptop bags were wonderful value, and they looked very sturdy too, well padded but on the otherhand they were light as a feather,go and take a look if you can

Hi ruby,
truly it is! When I have mine, I am very careful about this...I am scared to drop it..LOL! I had a friend who accidentally drop her laptop and she can't use it anymore..LOL! ANyway, I gave mine to my Sister and now using our desktop and even if you will hit it accidentally, it remains strong! hahahaha!
Anyway, maybe true to all things, when small it's fragile and an extra care!

I do agree that laptops are far more sensitive than desktops. It is more costly to have one fixed, more costly to have one in the first place, and more costly to maintain one.
I am currently using a 1.5 years old laptop and I am bothered it will die soon. Hopefully not.
Good day!

Ohhh Pikelet ,what a shame and to have had it given to you as a gift too, those motherboards have something to answer to dont they?they seem to cause a lot of problems with the laptops,my sisters laptop has broken down, apparently the mains input socket thingy has moved inside, and when she took it to be looked at by the engineer ,they quoted around one hundred gbp to repair it,well she weighed up the pros and cons and im sure she is thinking of just getting a new laptop,

Definitely and sure they are Fragile.. see just hoiw heavy they are and you cxan realize that! when they fall, you can say goodbye to this laptop!! only if you are lucky! :)
Laptops are used to take care of them, working with at a good Conditions, Desktops are the Army Computers lol and sure more resistant than laptops.

My first desktop was one that was made using bits from old ones all put together I bought it at a little computer shop, and it lasted really well, in fact I gave it away in the end,it was still working well so it wasnt right to throw it away, but I do like the laptop as it is wireless enabled, makes life very simple, its easy to pop onto your lap and lol in the winter it acts as a hot water bottle.

Hi Ruby, well I wouldnt want a laptop for that reason and that reason only, they are very fragile and it only takes one slip ,and Kerrrashhhh the laptop has gone, the desktop has to be the better bet,but the only thin I have against them is that sitting there at my desk top makes my back ache like billy oh,I need hubby to rub me with deep heat every nite lol hes not complaining!

I have never owned a laptop, but I can see how they would take a lot more abuse then a desktop computer.
I am sorry to hear that it can not be repaired. I know it get expensive replacing that ever few years.

I have mates who wouldnt ever have a desktop computer ,they reckon they are too bulky, but mine is great, its a slim screen and its really reliable, now ive said it you watch it will go and break down lol .crosses fingers quickly. But the only hitch is that if you wanted to say take it upstairs and have some peace away from the rest of the household then you cant lol
