It is a very common and famous notion that reading in scarce light weakens your eye sight. Do you believe in this??? What is your opinion???

I'm not sure if I believe it or not, but my wife just bought a "reading" lamp that looks more blue and is great to read under. It is also a Compact Flourescent. Matt

I think it can. Anything that stresses your eye like that can. If you are reading in scarce light your eye has to work harder to focus which means applying forces on your cornea to allow it to focus with the low light. It is stressful to the eye and can make it worse if you do it for too long. That is my understanding. Although the eye can accommodate for low light a little bit, it has to work at it. Having plenty of light ensures that your eye is working with as little stress as possible (although too bright can be bad too... such as staring at a computer monitor for too long)
