Do you record down your expenses or spending ....?

Since young, I always have a notepad or book, that I would record my expenses either weekly or monthly. I've been doing this for umpteen years.
Whatever I spent or used, I would record down. This way I would have a rough estimate of my own expenses - books, shopping, meals (at work), petrol & toll, monthly allowances to my parents and miscellaneous expenses - and my balance. This helps me work out my monthly budget - how much I would need, or how much I could save.
Do you do this too? Or how do you work out how much you need or spend each month?

I used to do that when i was younger... since i need to budget the allowance given to me by my parents... but eversince i started working... i stopped doing it... i developed this sense of memorizing all the expenses that i made for the day or week... so i know when i have already exceeded my budget... or when i am still on it...

I try to do this but somewhere along the way, I start forgetting and then I just stop. Then I start the whole cycle again. LOL! Everyday i try not to buy stuff I don't need. Just the basic, my food. I buy some shoes and clothes once in a while. .. but that's very rare.

Hi, I started from young, so this recording is in my system. Sometimes I am lazy, and just let the recording lapse.
Then I would get anxious and go back to my notepad, and fussed over the amount and balance, sometimes forgetting what I've spent and on what items!
Thanks for responding and have a great weekend!

Hi lazeebee, during those younger days I used to write down all the expenses I had made in an account book. It didn’t matter how much I had spent for the stuff. I haven’t made any record for this anymore nowadays. I only keep those receipts which I have received when purchasing goods in files for further reference. From my umpteen years of experience I know roughly how much I would spend for the commodities and groceries weekly, so I don't have to take the trouble to make any record on expenses anymore.
posting and take care.

I do not but my elder brother now retired and is aging above 65 has the habit to record every peeny he earn and spend. He has a diary to write on day to day basis. Some time I do not like his this habit. But now I am thinking he was right and still he is right. It is necessary to keep a record of what we earn and what we spend. By this we can plan our budget also. How you see it please comment and have a nice day.

No I don't take a record of my expenses, I tried that once but I can't keep track to all my expenses so I decided to stop.
