Culture and myth..just a thought what music we listen to

Growing up in a mostly latin neighborhood I listen to what is referred to "whiteboy music" made fun of, but at the age of ten i didn't care just liked it..80's pop and rock music. While in middle school i was the kid who never fit in..had a group of weird friends who tagged along because i simply drew every-thing they found that interesting... most times the music I'd listen to they found me to be too weird because of my latin background..any-one had this cultural clash while growing up?
