Getting and inspiring Referrals

I was just reading somebody else's experience where the man said how happy he was to get his first two referrals, and every response to the article was from Mylotters like you and I who had trouble getting referrals, and more to the point, had found that the referrals they had managed to get were totally INACTIVE. It started me thinking that maybe we need some inspiration on the double problem of attracting referrals in the first place, and then inspiring them to participate. On the face of it, taking part in discussions here on Mylot is fairly easy, but maybe the normal methods of recruitment don't really work too well when we're looking for active people who are going to take great pleasure in expressing their opinions. When you look at the vast number of interests that we can make comments about, when you look at the wide variety of writing activity exhibited on this site, it makes it quite hard to understand why so many people join, and then sit on their hands. So far, I have had no luck attracting responses when I've started a discussion, so it will be interesting to see whether this topic gets some responses. How did you get your referrals? how active are they? do you think you did anything in particular to get them active or was it just that your sterling qualities meant that you attracted active people in the first place? Don't be shy....share with the rest of us!

I have a couple of referrals, but none of them are really active. There were a couple that started off well, but they all seemed to lose interest over a short period of time. You are so right - it's not finding the referrals that is the hard part, but rather keeping them active and engaged in the discussions here and the whole process. Honestly, I wish I knew the answer. I tried just referring friends, hoping they'd enjoy chatting here but that approach does not seem to have worked. I'd like to find a better way of attracting referrals, but I am not sure how to go about it. Even a few active referrals would make my earning potential here so much greater I believe. If anyone else has any great tips they would like to share, I'm sure we would all be happy to hear them!
