Are you able to figure out things on your own or do you need help figuring things out? Is problem solving something that can be learned or not? There is debate abotu that at my office and would like to know. Sometimes I can figure things out on my own and sometimes I need help. :-)

Problem solving, despite the required technical knowledge for some problems, is basically a matter of lateral thinking.
I do not believe that you can learn to think laterally anymore than you could learn to have a higher IQ.
You can of course improve your approach to problems, just as you can improve your score in an IQ test by familiarising yourself with the type of sequences that are often asked and how they are compiled.
I have always enjoyed those kind of situations and would probably score better in an IQ test than some people who are actually more intelligent than I am.

I would like to believe I am good at problem solving, but sometimes, it does help to seek out others who may provide a different viewpoint and who also may have experience with a particular issue and whose thoughts may be broader in scope.

If you are talking emotion problems and disagreements, yes. I am good at that. If you are talking about problem solving concerning a machine, no way. If you are talking about leaning something at work on your own, I'm so so. You weren't clear on that question, sorry. I tried to answer the best I could.

I assume that you are talking about lifes problem solving. I am good at solving problems. I am a "planner" person and as such I use it for everything. I can usually figure out how to handle life's little unexpected problems in a professional manner. This is not always the case but most of the time.
