I live in a conservative Texas town - the second most conservative city behind Provo, Utah! I can't believe what I am hearing both around here & surrounding areas, not to mention the deep south. Voters are saying that they will not vote for Barack Obama because of his skin color! Of course we have to throw in that he is Muslim (those of us who have half a brain know that is all internet hype). I am completely ashamed of my fellow Americans who refuse to vote for someone based on how they look. If you do not like where Sen. Obama stands on the issues, don't vote for him. But let's say you agree with most of what he says but just can't bring yourself to vote for an African-American - shame on you! I wonder if anyone out there has run into this.
I'm not certain but I think that here in my town they won't vote for Obama because he isn't a true Christian, whatever that is. Again I find this to be a lame reason. Vote for the candidate who you think is going to fix the problems & repair international tensions with the U.S. We have a good Christian man in office right now - what exactly has he done for us? BTW, what is it about Obama that leads people to believe that he is not a true Christian? Arrrgh! I'm so frustrated!!

I'm not voting for Obama because of what he stands for. He is for killing unborn babies and homosexual "marriage". He is also muslim and that is not good. Morals play a very important part for me. I am a Christian and I believe that we need God more than ever and we need a godly President. McCain was not who I wanted for the Republican nominee. I was hoping for Mike Huckabee, but maybe someday it will work out for him
I also think Sarah Palin is wonderful. She stands up for what is right and I really think Sen McCain did well when he chose her for his running mate.
We also really need to pray for our nation. No one can really "fix" all that needs fixing. We need God and we need to start obeying Him and seeking His will. Without Him, things will just get worse no matter who is in office.
God bless.

I too live in a small Texas town and often hear much the same nonsense. People today are amazingly stupid at times it seems. To judge someone by their color is just so backwards. Come on people, its 2008, not 1808. I'm white, but will vote for Obama for various reason. One of which is I don't think the republicans can repair the damage done to our country over the last 8 years.

Amen, my Texas friend. I too will vote for Obama based on the issues & the fact that I believe that he will be the one to get us out of this mess.

I am not an American, but if I were I would not vote for Obama because he is for letting babies die who survived abortion, wants abortion for every reason, is for same gender marriage, will not take money from those who made it and give it to those who did not work - the rich are already taxed at 40 percent of their income and Obama wants to take more of that money away and will make America a socialist state.
Oh yes I wish that 911 never happened, but why did the terrorists attack when Bush was the president. He had to make those choices to fight terrorism and go after them, but if it were a Democrat who was in the White House then, you would be all behind him. Sounds a bit hypocritical to me. It is okay if a Democrat president had lead us into war, but not if it were a Republican.

Obama does not want abortion, he simply believes that it should be the woman's choice. As for same gender marriage, I believe the terminology is civil unions. I don't have a problem with that. The rich aren't hurting - Bush cut their taxes. Obama wants to discontinue that & cut taxes for the middle class, which are hurting. A socialist country? I don't think so. He just aims to help those who need it. It's not okay to lead us into an unjust war, I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat. We still have not found Osama Bin Laden!

To mean it would mean that a true christian would not associating with the type of people that he says he is friends with, like Bill Ayers, Resko, and his revernard. I think he is a snake in the grass and I think the demos look at him as their future puppet. His skin color should not matter, what should matter is what has he ever done, what experience has he had, what has he ever run, (oh yes there was that board that he was on with Ayers, the known terroist), they couldn't even keep that running. The south has always been against anything that wasn't their own, and I can see where he might have a problem there. I would think that after all these years, the color of someone's skin would not even be considered, but I don't believe that will ever come to pass. I just don't like him he could be blue, purple or red, I wouldn't vote for him.

Honestly, I don't think any of the candidates are acting all that Christian-like.
On a recent Washington Journal on CSpan a black man called in and said that any woman who voted for McCain because of Palin being a woman were racist. Someone called in later on about his call and said he had little room to speak because of the amount of blacks voting for Obama just because he was black. I'd say they are both right.

Collieluv, all I can say is believe it!!!!! In a perfect world (which we don't live in) one would think that in 2008, with the world being as diverse as it is that this would not be of issue but it is.
Personally speaking as a double minority, being African American and female, this is my life everyday, all day. Of course its not said to your face, but racism very much exists still today. Everybody knows this. But we have learned to co-exist. To those that practice such racial attitudes, no matter how successful I am, no matter how smart I am, no matter what I have to offer to society, I will still just be a AA woman, and judged by the color of my skin. I will never be considered equal to anything or anybody except another AA female.
As one of your previous posters mentioned there are also AA's that are voting for Barack only because he is a black man, which I think is just as bad. There are some Caucasian men, that may have voted for McCain because he is a white male, and now aren't going to because he as a woman on his ticket. For these men, a woman is in a place of authority is as much a threat as a black man. So there's no getting around it, prejudice and racism exists. It always has and always will.

I'm sorry, relundad - I wish racism was long gone. I know it never will be but I for one will not judge anyone by appearance alone. You are right, there are those out there voting for Obama just because he is black & that is wrong too. I just get really upset when I hear of things like this. Vote on the issues!

Some people would rather see four more years of failed policies than vote for a black person. Although I have been wondering about that a lot lately and honestly their vote is hidden from public so how would anyone know? lol One would have to be extremely racist to be ok with the economy hitting a depression rather than vote for a black man.
