Well, if you don't need too much power and you're looking for a portable and cheap laptop, you could try the new laptops that are coming out now that are really small. The Asus Eee or the Acer Aspire One. These laptops are really small and are really cheap. They are good for word processing and internet browsing. Downside is, they don't have any CD/DVD ROM drives. There are also cheap laptops out that aren't 7" big. Acer and Asus have some pretty decent laptops at cheap prices. You can also try Compaq or HP. I think their laptops are also a bit cheap.

it really depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to use it as well for internet, then I would suggest you look for a second-hand P3 laptop on Ebay. BUT if you want to do more things with it (like playing games as well), you'll need as a minimum a P4 2 Ghz laptop, which are obviously very expensive.. I believe a second-hand P3 1 Ghz laptop will cost about 200 dollars, and a P4 2 Ghz about 500 dollars, so you can see the difference! and what's very important to notice, that's when you're using it for school, you will need a laptop with much battery life! I'd like to suggest the following laptop to you; Intel Celeron 750 Mhz, 128 MB Graphics card, and it's very compact! You propably know them from the commercial. I believe the new-price of these 'small' laptops, are about 250 dollars, so I think you would be best off with OR a Pentium 3 1 Ghz laptop (second hand) OR the compact, small laptop (which is NEW!) I hope did was any help for you! If you got more questions, then just ask me!
