Honestly....I did great in school. Got A's and B's in my math and Algebra classes. I've never once had to use Algebra in my 34 yrs. I understand basic math is needed. Do we really need anything beyond that?

Hi! Welcome to myLot. That's great that you are good in math. Im such a dunce in that subject. I dont like math and math doesnt like me either. Though from repeating the slope intercepts lesson in algebra because my friends asks me for help with their lessons, I also get to brush up on that subject and learn about it. I flunked my Geometry class in high school and thats the only time that I had a red mark on my report card. Thought my parents would kill me but to my surprise they were quite understanding and had a laugh about it actually.
Yeah basic math is definitely needed. As for every other math, I think we need to at least know the basics of it so that other people who know about it wont make a fool of us. Something like that. Also, specialty maths are needed for a persons profession so its kinda needed by other people more than others.
But then again, thats just what I think.^_^

MAth would be my favorite subject when I was in the grade school as well as in high school. I would say, you may be using algebra in life more than you think. Converting measurements (inches to centimeters or vice versa) for instance makes use of algebra processes. It might be evident but we make use of this unknowingly.

I've managed to survive with basic math for over fifty years. I stated my college education when I was in my late forties and the math requirements are ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. If I haven't needed algebra, geometry or the advanced math studies yet, what makes educators think I need them now. Without them, though, I can't get a degree. Something about 'a well rounded education' was mentioned when asked why they are required. My response to that statement was, "the only thing getting well rounded is my rear-end from sitting through these darn math classes".
