if black holes are created it could swallow up the earth its very scary but they say small holes grow slow it could take 50 months which would work out at 2012 by time its big enough to suck in the earth kind of interesting with the dates, the buzz of late has been 2012 is when earth ends just our look its governments who end up killing us with there experiments that we have no control over.

If they are creating the Big Bang, then they are doing the opposite of creating a black hole. They are causing an expansion not a contraction or sucking in of matter such as a black hole does.
Actually, they do not have the power to do either. I think they will find eventually that they have done nothing much except wasted a lot of needed energy on a project that will prove fruitless. I seriously doubt that they will cause any more damage than to waste a lot of resources.

They do claim some positive side effects of the undertaking that have benefited society. In order to faster exchange information among scientists around the world they created the world wide web based on the original internet. Cell phones are apparently another innovation coming out of that project.
I agree that they will probably not succeed. Although they are trying to create a universe rather than a black hole, they don't really know whether their little experiment can really do that. In theory it could indeed result in a black hole. It's all theoretical. This thing was build to proof their theory of the big bang, but it could proof the opposing theory of creating a black hole.
But I agree with what you said, they probably won't accomplish much.. yet. Unfortunately, not quite knowing what the results of even a failed experiment might be, well, it still creates a possible danger. Well, eventually the scientists will doom us, one way or another, I'm sure they'll find a way;)

Hi there lou1982
This happened over a week ago now but I remember thinking to myself, who on earth made this discission for the whole planet? I don't remember anyone asking me or my country if we want them to go ahead with this!! All 2012 means to me right now is the next Olympics happening in my country and that could possibly mean the end of the world!! . In all seriousness though I did hear some talk of the end of the world being 2012, if this is true then how can people be so irresponsible and take so many people's lives into their own hands, who gave them that right?

that is exactly what i think i mean if a universe is created its ever growing it cant be contained under one country surly i would be worried if they did it on mars never mind on earth who do they think they are its just a few people who have control over everyone look at people in power in the past though they step out of line or get to advanced they get bombed

First off, the machine is in Switzerland, not France. It's not the government but some science group. The collider space has been drilled under the Alps. The scientists maintain that anything that theoretically could go wrong would be absorbed by the rocks. They don't anticipate black holes to occur. But then again, you can never trust those people....
Anyhow, although the machine has been started, it is in initial testing of functionality. The scientists say that they won't even be able to do the experiment now, they have to successfully complete testing phases, which if all goes well would be a year from now. That puts us at 2009. While the black hole swallowing up earth theory has been brought up by several opposing scientists, the 50 months number has only been thrown out by one obscure professor. That guy even looks crazy, lol. Anyhow, 50 months from September 2009.. that would put us in November of 2013, not 2012.
Although I agree that they are undertaking something that they themselves don't really seem to know the consequences of, I'm not one to support gloom and doom prophecies. There have been too many people waiting on certain doomsdays to arrive. The days come and go and nothing happens, lol. We'll just have to wait and see.
As this is in Switzerland and legal steps against the project have been exhausted, I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed. One way or another, sooner or later, scientists will find a way to kill us all. If it's not some mutated lab virus, it may be the black hole. If you try to forbid the experiments, they'll go to countries, where it is allowed. Look at stem cell research. The pharmacy companies just moved it all to countries, where nobody cares. They are just happy about the money. Or they conduct their research in secret. At least this way we know that danger may be heading our way.
