As those that know me know we have four dogs. Three of them are big dogs. An Australian Shepherd, A Queensland Healer, A German Shepherd mix and then a small Maltese. Well the Maltese has rulled the bunch since we got him a little over a year ago. Well, Now there is a new ruler in the house. My wife went out last week and got a kitten even though I said NO! She used the excuse that Jenny need some school supplies and when they got home she had this little kitten. I was astonished. How dare she go out and get a cat when I said no. I thought for sure that this small little kitten would end up as dog chow in the first few minutes it was here. But to my surprise all the dogs welcomed it (traitors). And these are dogs that have a history of killing cats. They each took to its defense and would not let any of the other dogs near it. And the Maltese especial became the kittens loyal guard letting the others now that if they got to close they would feel his wrath. Now a week later the kitten runs through the house with for dogs chasing it and plays tag with them. Once again. All I have to say is TRAITORS! Can you believe that dogs with such a history would welcome a cat into the house?

It goes to show you that cats and dogs can be friends. They arent the sworn enemies that some people make them out to be. My cat and dog have been pretty much raised together and I woujdnt say they are the best of friends but they get along like a brother and sister or actually two brothers because they are both boys. They have their quarrels both are basically friendly.

But cats and dogs have always been portrayed as natural enemies. And then to have these big dogs who have a history of killing cats all loving up on this little kitten. It is just not right.

If the kitty was outside, it would be prey, easily. Inside, it belongs to them and it behooves them to take care of it and welcome it. I have always been told that tomcats will kill kittens, but that has not happened when I have adopted any little stranger. Did you have a particular reason for saying "No" to a cat? I am just curious. Do you have some pictures of your pets?

Actually I am allergic to cats. On the second day she was her she jumped up my leg and still (almost three weeks later) it is red and sore. What you said about the dogs claiming her as property is so true. Even the animal control lady said that she has cats and dogs and if the cats get out in the yard and starts to run the dogs will kill it. But in the house they are fine together.

That's a lovely tale...funny too. I wish I could be there to see their antics. I only have one dog but when Banjo arrived as a kitten, he too, took charge. I have since acquired a couple of goats. Banjo lies down in the yard and the billy goat tries to pick him up or head butt him...Banjo has to run away but he always comes back. The nanny goat is curious about him. Banjo smooches her and she doesn't know what to do ...they are both intrigued with each other...I just love watching them all interact.

This is so hilarious. I can see it now! My brother has cats and dogs that have always slept together! My daughter and her children also have cats and dogs that have all gotten along together. Doesn't matter if a new one comes around or not. Do you think that someone has slipped either the dogs or the cats a pill of some kind to change their character?
