It seems like McCain might think it is. Actually, it seems like he was totally confused during a recent interview. Watch and listen and let me know what you think:

Apparently it's even on Drudge that McCain seems to have forgotten Spain is in Europe! What do you suppose would be said if it had been Obama to make this blunder?

Wow, this is a serious stretch. You guys must really be getting desperate.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Hemisphere
3: one of two half spheres formed by a plane through the sphere's center
"Hemi" Means "Half" annie. As in "Hey,You got a hemibrain in there?"
"What do you suppose would be said if it had been Obama to make this blunder?"
Probably the same as when he said he had been to all 57 states. nothing.

OK, you're right, it doesn't matter if McCain thinks Spain is next to Mexico, or that he doesn't know who their Prime Minister is or if he's willing to meet with him if elected. You had to pick out the word hemisphere and try to belittle me for it. I guess when one is ignorant it's hard to tell when someone else is.
Get over the 57 states crap, you know as well as anyone with even less than half a brain that it was a simple misspeak.
I'd just love to know why you bother responding to discussions by people like me who are SOOOO far beneath you? It's certainly not like there aren't a huge number of members here who share you political views. Have a great night!

When did McCain say that Spain is next to Mexico? Do you know what he's thinking now?
And when did he "specifically mention the Western hemisphere?
"You had to pick out the word hemisphere..."
*It is in the title of your post, I thought it was the subject.
"Get over the 57 states crap..."
*Pot/kettle?
It's not a "simple misspeak" That I would have made. But then again I didn't go to Harvard. I like how you always accuse Conservatives of defending McCain no matter what. When you don't even defend Obama, You just say "Get over it." But yet you come up with these petty allegations.
I could come up with all the same excuses, "he was tired"."She had a heavy accent". "She was Jumping around mostly talking about South America." "She didn't specify North/South or East/West hemisphere." But it's unnecessary, this is a non issue.

Annie, don't sweat it. This person is defeated by his or her own definition. McCain had the option to define the half as divided by the Equator(north and South) or as divided by the Meridian(East and West). He mentioned the Western Hemisphere clearly. He was specific. Spain is not in the Western Hemisphere as defined by modern geography. The guy just had a senior moment. The name of the Spanish leader sounds a bit Latin-American so he was confused. It wouldn't have been necessary to talk about it if he hadn't made the same mistake in linking al qaeda to Iran, which is predominantly Shia and therefore an enemy of that particular terrorist organization. In the 57 states fiasco, Obama was referring to the number of primaries held and, unless you hate him or are yourself ignorant, you wouldn't be worried by it. The 'Spain in America' gaffe, however, is serious because it came from someone who thinks he knows more about foreign affairs than all the ambassadors of the world put together.

Wouldn't it be something such as just another reason not to elect him because he doesn't have any experience? Or possibly I bet he knows where every Muslim country is. Or how about this, what a dummy. Do any of those sound like the answers we would see if he had said them?

You know it stuck me, do you think he is trying to avoid the question so he doesn't associate himself with Bush since Bush has "been on the outs" with Spain since they pulled out of Iraq?

The reporter was asking him about all these Latin American countries and then she busted out with a question about Spain. She talked extremely fast and with a very thick accent.

Right. And Sarah Palin has super-sight and can see Russia from the edge of Alaska.
Obama's campaign would likely die if he said this. *matter-of-factly tone* Probably because most people I know actually expect him to be smarter than that.
Why people are still trying to prop up McCain's crap I have no idea...but I'll shush now lol.

Thought: foreign policy is pretty much all McCain's had going for him in the general population than much else, maybe that's why people're cutting him alot extra slack for screwing up on knowing about so many countries?

Okay I'm younger than McCain, but old enough to have been taught way back in elementary school that there are two hemispheres, western ("the occident") and eastern "the orient"), we're in the western, and so is Europe, which includes Spain. If the rules have changed in the past 30 years or so, nobody told me. :)
I'm not a McCain supporter in this election, but I don't think he's an idiot for saying Spain is in the same hemisphere as we are, I think it is too.

I'm sorry, it's my fault for using the word hemisphere in the title at all, it probably confused everyone. (Note to my right-wing friends - there's no need to beat me up or correct me over it anymore, I got your point and I stand corrected...lol!)
That isn't the point at all, the point is he's once again shown he hasn't got a clue when it comes to the foreign policy he claims to be such an expert in. The main thing is he seemed not to know the Spanish leader's name or whether or not he'll be willing to meet with him if elected. Spain is one of our allies and McCain seems to have forgotten that and, sorry, to me that's a big deal and his choice for V.P. does nothing to make me feel better.

First off he sounded drunk (No?) I could barely understand him! But I do think if Obama made those mistake McCain would be all over it. Regarding some of his comments, why do republicans want to shot first ask questions later! Is it really that bad of a thing the try to reason with someone, and why can he only support countries that have same beliefs that we do! Wouldn't it be a good thing to help educated people them? Its just so weird to me!

ok, I listened to the audio a few times, read the transcript. I'm even more confused now then I was before. I don't understand what the controversy is. I don't see how this somehow shows McCain doesn't know who are friends are and I don't understand how this shows McCain is confused on geography. I don't understand how this shows McCain doesn't know who the leader of spain is, I don't understand how this shows he is confused period. Maybe I'm just really confused and dumb, please someone help me with this one?

She couldn't even remember the word "hello" at the end of the interview. She's apparently in Miami, So we're lucky she even speaks English. I remember the first time I went into a K-Mart in Miami 20 years ago. First off, I was the only blue eyed blonde in the place. Then they did the announcements over the P.A. System in Spanish. I waited for the English translation. There wasn't one. I am not making this up.

Also, when I was in the Marines, My roommate was reading the book "Scarface". He read me a line from the book about one of the characters seeing a bumper sticker that said "Would the last American Leaving Miami please bring the Flag". I've seen these stickers myself. Weak lol.

um, annie, I just looked, and yes, Spain is in fact in our hemisphere. Are democrats really so desperate that they have to invent gaffes?, not you, you just repeated the incorrect information, though I give you credit for at least asking. but the answer is, yes, spain is in our hemsiphere. I looked at a map and checked the hemisphere lines, it's both in our northern and western hemisphere by geographic definition.

Invent gaffes? Did you read what was said and/or see the video? He was clearly very confused and was he dissing one of our strongest allies or not? That's OK for all of you conservatives, make fun of my choice of title or my apparent confusion over which hemisphere is which...lol...I don't care because I've been out of school for almost 40 years, I hated geography and I'm NOT the one running for President!

Annie,
What makes this so ironic is the fact that Obama thinks he is running for president of the world! Barack needs to find out what hemishpere he is in also! Pot calling kettle black!

Elanr,
I have no problem with the world looking up to America AND her president! Let's just make sure he is president BEFORE we start looking up to him!

This shows you have no idea of how the world sees America. Whether you like it or not, the world used to see America and the Soviet Union as the two 'leaders' of this side of Heaven. With the Soviet Union disintegrated, the world now has only one superpower. Moreover, it's not Obama who thinks he's running for president of the world. It's the world that wishes she had a president like him.
