Do you like to eat mongo on Friday?

Bean Soup - Here in our country Friday means mongo today. DO you also like mongo? Or you eat it too on Friday? or any other day?

Today is Friday and almost every household cooks mongo today. I really don't know where it started but my theory is that it came from the idea that Friday is a sacrifice day, that is why you only have to eat vegetable meal. (but how can it be a sacrifice day?mongo was a very delicious meal!) Well, we cook mongo meal every Friday, paired with fish in vinegar and ginger. My mom cooks it. She would first boil the beans then when it is soft, she would saute it in garlic, onion tomato and shrimp paste. Then add the mongo beans and let it simmer, add some water in it and let it boil then add some malunggay leaves. We don't like to use bitter gourd leaves as we don't like bitter taste. Sometimes I used kamias fruit to add some sourness on the meal. My sister and her family loves mongo on Friday too, well the way she cooked it was different on my mother's way. She used real shrimp to add some taste. She would saute it in garlic, onion tomato, fish sauce and then add big shrimp ( well in her case, where did the sacrifice thing go LOL) then she uses bitter gourd leaves (her hubby likes it that way, she always do what her hubby says LOL very different from mine LOL) Well today is Friday and almost lunch time. have you had you monggo today?Oh I remember again, my brother in law, in his office canteen mongo is always present too when Friday come. So have you had your monggo today? Does your office canteen serves monngo on Friday? Or Do you eat it too on any other day?

This is a very interesting question. If it's in the right season, we can just eat mango anytime we want. Why we just like to eat it on Friday?:) We can eat it anytime. I love China

I noticed that too in our canteen at the office. Every Friday Monggo is already a part of the menu and surprisingly most of the employees have Monggo on their meals. I too am surprised by these behavior why they provide it on Fridays. Before I used to love it but for some reasons I was diagnosed to have high on uric acid and I was forbidden to eat beans and that includes Monggo beans on a regular basis since they are considered to contain high uric acids which can cause you to arthritis. But it has been several years ago and I have not experience the pain on my knees anymore. So I guess I can take it again but I choose not to eat it on a weekly basis.

What is mongo? I live in the UK, and don't believe I've ever heard of that type of food. Friday is pizza day in my house anyway, I always make a homemade pizza to eat on Friday evening as it's probably my favourite meal, and Friday is always a good day as it's the end of the week!

MOnngo is green small beans here in our country. if kidney beans is more popular, then they are family I think because they are both legumes.

I don't eat monggo on Friday. I actually don't eat monggo at all. I had a bad experience with monggo when I was a kid. I was at my cousin's house in Cebu and I ate a whole lot of monggo and then my stomach went bad. That was the first and last time I ate monggo. Maybe I will try it again someday if it is offered to me. Hopefully it doesn't give me a bad stomach like the last time.

Reading your post made me miss MONGO... We used to have it every Friday for lunch, along with fried "galunggong" or some other fried fish. I usually like the ones prepared at home and have actually mastered cooking mongo. I just have several bad experiences eating mongo in some outside canteens because not everyone can cook it just the way I like it. Still, if I eat at some cafeteria or canteen and it's Friday and there is mongo, chances are that's what I will choose.

Well, I eat mongo with any fried food even if it's not Friday.I love to eat fried foods with monggo. Yes, it's sauted with garlic, onions and tomatoes, then added with shrimps and pork. It's also great with either kamote tops or unripe jackfruit. I never heard about the Fridays thing about mongo. Have a nice day!

Coz i have missed eating it for a while now...When i remember how my mom used to cook me mongo for lunch it makes me wanna go to the phils this very instant and eat mongo lol. Sigh..i wish i was near phils though so it is easier for me to buy mongo and other food that i always love.

hi dylan! I always eat mongo. but you know what I just learned two years ago, that mongo is eaten only on a friday... it was a tradition, but before, we cook it anytime of the week. i just love eating it. i also eat mongo just plain boiled, then add some sugar and milk, make it cold then eat it as my merienda. its delicious.

I eat monggo but not necessarily on a friday. My other theory why monggo tend to be cooked on a friday because during lenten season, pork is not allowed on a friday, thus to avoid forgetting about that, perhaps they make it a hobby to cook monggo on a friday.
