Do you let your daugther's hair grow long or cut it short...

I am at odds with my husband regarding my two year old daughter's hair... he wants it to grow long... but i want it short because the temperature in my country can sometimes be unbearable hot... and the humidity terrible... Aside for that tying the hair so it won't get in her eyes is so time consuming... with my hectic schedule with work... house chores... and taking care of a very active toddler... and since my husband is working abroad... i decided to just cut my daughter's hair short... thinking that it will grow long again by the time he comes back next year... So how about the other parents here... do you let your children's hair grow long or do you cut it short?...

My mom forced us to cut our hair very, very shot. In fact she cut our hair very shot because she said we did not take care of it. Well I say she did it to be mean. My daughter I let her hair grow long until she was old enough to make the decision to cut it. I did put it up, but we did not live in an area where it is humid we do have the heat thou.

The humidity in my country can be very unbearable to the point that even when inside the house... my daughter soaked in sweat... so a short hair is indeed advisable for our comfort... it is good that you let your children decide on their own... i will definitely do that when my daughter is old enough... Thanks for the response...

My son's hair is longer than mine and my daughters, as long as he keeps it combed and clean then I do not care if it is long or not.

You are right... as long as he maintains it neat and clean... then there is nothing wrong for a boy to have long hair...

I keep my 3 girls hair long. My 3 year old has only had her hair cut once and its getting so long and thick and beautiful, I love it. I don't live in a very hot climate though, in the summer I keep their hair pulled back.

Maybe if i live in a place with the same climate as yours... i wouldn't have second thoughts of letting my daughter's hair grow long... but since i do not... and she could sometimes sweat a lot... a short hair is ideal... but when she learns how to tie it on her own... i think i would let it grow long like mine... Thanks for the response...

Hi aseretdd, I live a country where the weather here is hot all the year round and one would be sweaty easily. So if I were to have a lovely little I prefer to let her to keep short hair all the time. I know small kid is energetic and couldn’t sit still so definitely she would get sweaty easily. I’m afraid that the sticky clothes with sweat would make her skin, especially the part around the neck to have the prickly heat rash. Yeah, I agree that I don't have to consume much time to take care of her short hair, like shampooing, combing and tying. The only inconvenient thing is that she needs to take her regular hair cut to maintain her short hair style decently. I believe little girl with short hair looks lovely and attractive as well. Happy posting and take care.

It totally agree with you... my two year old is very active... so she gets sweaty easily... and her head would be all wet... so a short hair is ideal for her... i recently just cut the back short... and asked her to keep a secret from her daddy... Thanks for the response...

Hi, friend. My husband and I always wanted for our daughter to have long hair. I personally find little girls with braided long hair attractive. However, our daughter runs from me everytime I try to tie her hair. Like you, I'm also a working mom. Because of this, her hair often looks unruly. Further, more than a month ago; we left her under my mom's care because we couldn't get a nanny to babysit for her. And while she's there, she often gets a haircut because my mom also takes care of my youngest sibling's first son. But I hope we'll be able to fetch her there by next month (April) and spend more quality time with her. Along with this, we'll try to make her hair long. Ever since she was born, her hair never grew longer than shoulder length. I do miss her very much, specially because she is our only child until now. She is presently 3 years old and hopefully, we'll be able to send her to school this coming June 2009. We're planning to stay in my husband's hometown, God-willing. Regards & take care, friend.

Unfortunately I don't have a daughter. If I had a daughter, perhaps I will let her to choose to have long or short hair. But perhaps long hair will be much more adorable. I love China

A long hair definitely looks cute on a young daughter... if it only it is not hot in my country... i would let my daughter grow her hair very long... but that is not the case... so i will continue to cut it until she knows how to take care of it by herself... Thanks for the response...

I happened to be in the same situation with you when my daughter was two years old (she turned three last December). i wanted a short hair for her but my husband wanted a long hair. What I did was I just trimmed her hair. Just recently, we went to a salon and I had my hair cut and I suggested to my daughter that she should have a haircut too. Would you believe, she refused to have a haircut because according to her, she is Cinderella and Cinderella has a long hair. Whew, I just trimmed her hair again. She is Cinderella who loves to play cars. LOL

Well, if she's only two year old, I'll prefer to cut the hair short. Same in my country, it's very hot always, having short hair will be more comfortable and easier to take care.

when my daugthers are still toodlers i make sure that their hairs are short because of lice. specially when they are starting to go to school. now that they are teens already they are the one deciding what to do with their hairs. i only cut it when they did something wrong. lol

My husband would have a fit if I cut our daughter's hair! He would really be mad. And I would be mad if he cut her hair. She has the most amazing beautiful hair I've ever seen. Where we live, it's often unbearably hot, but she doesn't spend as much time outdoors. We're inside most times during the summer, so her hair is not a problem. When she was younger, I would put her hair up in a pony tail, but now that she is a bit older, she doesn't like that. Her hair is so incredibly long and curly. But she won't let me comb it, ever! And her hair tangles so easily. But, as long as I keep it conditioned, it's usually in good shape. And I've often wondered if I should cut her hair short just for her own ease. Of course, I know that she loves her hair, so I won't do that. If she decides to cut her hair when she gets older that will be her choice.

I understand your situation... in my country... it can be hot inside and outside the house... and the humidity can be unbearable... in a matter of minutes... my daughters hair will be soaked in her own sweat... so the best thing really is for her to have short hair... but like you... i will let her decide when she is old enough... Thanks for the response...

Put it in a pony tail :) if she doesnt like it being brushed then have her help you. let her know she can do it like a big girl and once she can help out then she will allow you to put it up and you wont have to cut it.

My daughter can be very stubborn when it comes to putting her hair up in a pony tail... there are times when she likes it... but times when she doesn't... i don't let her help... because it will end up to be a mess... so i let her watch cartoon or play with something while i fix her hair... Thanks for the response...

My daughter is 4. She just got her hair cut into a little longer version of a bob. Both her father and I want her hair to grow long. She got a hold of a pair of scissors and gave herself a haircut. There was no way to have it styled to cover the cut without just coming short of shaving her head. Yup, she done a job on it. So we had to let it grow out long enough to have it all cut into one length. We wont have it cut again lest it be a trim up. When she gets older and wants it cut shorter that will be fine but for now we will keep it long.

I have three daughters two years apart the oldest 25 now. They were, well I guess I was, blessed with the thickest, straightest fastest growing, incredibly silky heads of hair I've ever come across.Their ponytails are so thick I can just get my fingers around them and they're just a little less thick at the ends due to no commercial shampoo's conditioner's or any other unnatural hair ruiners. Now because our girls hair grows at almost two feet a year, aided by schedualed and I just needed to perve on your hair vigorous scalp massages and brushings, every eight months my wife gets to indulge her special little turn-on and buzzes one of the girls hair, usually about four feet, off. I tried to do it several times, at the girls and my wifes needling but it makes me physically ill to cut off such beautiful hair. For some reason she really gets into it and writes little skits like Rapunzel where she is always the "evil something". It's odd when she cuts the schedualed daughter hair it doesn't bother me to watch and with her little twisted productions it's actually kind of exciting and as worked up and in to it me wife gets if I don't know better you'd think she is getting off when she starts the cutt'n. HA HA like anybody could aroused cutting hair or watching paint dry. So that's how we do it, grow it long, cut it short or in our case, off. Oh and we've got around 16 or 17 of those 4 foot ponytails and when you strap 5 or 6 of them together well there is just something about real sikly hair when it's a huge heavy 4 foot long ponytail. I thought it was kind of silly when the wife wanted of gave me a massage with it but, it's about the best feeling sensation I've come across.

My daughter will be 3 years old next month and I still haven't gotten her hair cut. She has these adorable little curls and I'm so afraid if I get her hair cut her little curls will go away. I'm going to keep my daughters hair long within reason. If I start to notice her hair making her uncomfortable or if she asks for a hair cut then I'll get it cut. But until then I just can't bear to cut her hair yet.

See that the hair are god gift. The are allowed to grow and show its own charismatic results. We unknowingly cut the hair short to our feasibility and what happen later on the child or the girl realize what has happened with her hairs and we have no response. Hairs are the likings of the girl or a women for their recognition. if so we must preserve it.

I agree with you that our hair is a gift from God... but we also need to make it presentable and take really good care of it... and one way to do that is to trim or cut it from time to time... when my daughter is old enought... she can decide for herself if she wants short or long hair... Thanks for the response...

i think for an active 2-year old simple is best. if you do not have time in the morning to fix it that will just add to tempers. yes, for this age i think what is simpliest for the mom is the best all around !
