Where are the Tampa Bay Ray fans?

United States

I was watching sports center and Mike and Mike in the morning and they both mentioned that not enough fans are going to the Tampa Bay Rays games. And I started thinking, Why don't many people got to their games? Yeah they have sucked since the day they've came out but now they are giving the Red Sox and Yankees a run for their money. So it inspired me to write a blog entry: http://sportsrus.today.com/ Why do you think people don't go to their games?

I think there are three main reasons, the beautiful Tamps weather, money, and their past history. They play in Florida where you have great weather most of the time. You can boat, swim, play tennis, etc. Baseball isn't on the list.Money these days is tight. The tickets or the food or the parking maybe too high. And worse of all, The Rays were known for some bad play and people just assumed that this season would be the same, well surprise! They are good.Hopefully they will come around.

I would like to see them move the team. I mean Florida has enough sports teams anyways... I wouldn't mind seeing them move to the Carolina's.. I don't know how much that would increase their fan base but the only team they have are the Carolina Panthers... But I think I new city would help..

That would be great.a good team should have the support of some loyal fans.the one thing Boston, New York, and Chicago has is a loyal fan base. Through the good , the bad , and the ugly , they are there to cheer them on.I hate the Evil Empire but there are Yankee fans everywhere. I am part of Red Sox Nation. And what can you say about the Cubbies? But every team should have a loyal base. It doesn't have to be as large as these three but they deserves can fans.I guess the question is can Carolina afford a new stadium?

True.. I know here in South Carolina we probably wouldn't be able to afford it.. I think we care to much about college football anyways.lol I know North Carolina has a Race Track to go along with the Panther's stadium... Maybe they could play in the Panther's stadium until they build their own stadium.. Its a long shot, but it would be cool to have a baseball team that close... They would probably move to a big city though if they were to move..

I have noticed that lack of fans sometimes mean that well there is not a lot of money but the owner of the team need to come up with creative ideas to bring in the fans. I sometimes (I am an Angels fan) pay attention to the promotions of other teams and notices when Pirates were giving away Pirates blankets as a giveaway, it was great and on that game there were a lot of fans. Angels were giving away scrath gas tickets (I forget up to how much but nice giveaway) at one point. So I will say Bay Rays fans need to be motivated to go.

I agree... They could bribe the fans into coming...lol And I'm sure a lot more people would come... But I'm impressed by the fact that their actually winning.

I think part of the problem could be because of the Economy with trying to save for gas prices and of coursing trying to survive. I don't know how it is everywhere but it can be very difficult to find and keep a job given what has been going on. Maybe it's the dome themselves. Aren't they getting a new stadium sometime soon? I think there are fans, mostly watching the Rays at home. Could be the location and not wanting to travel but I could be wrong on that.

I've been to St. PETE on numerous occasions and this is why they don't go. It's humid as hell during the summer, and the stadium does help a little, but not enough. Second, their dome is a piece of crap, and its not worth it paying lk 10 bucks to get in, sit for four hours in a humid house when you can watch the game on your plama screen tv in hd, in an air conditioned house. The Rays have one of the better TV ratings in MLB.

It really comes down to this... People root for a winning team, the Rays have a history of being at the very bottom every year. It just so happens this year they are at the top and next year will they be at the top again or will they sick down to their usual bottom?
