hi myLotters! I would like to share two psalms that I find beautiful, inspiring and helpful. It gives me strength just reading the verses.
Psalm 23 (A Psalm of David)
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my Soul. He guides in me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You annoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 91
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
Surely He will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you make the Most High your dwelling - even the Lord, who is my refuge,
then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him i trouble,
I will deliver and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

Psalms 23 is the most common verse, I did memorize the six verses when I was 8 (but my niece could memorize that while she is four!). I love Psalms 1 also, reminds us of how wonderful it is to keep ourselves from the delight of the law of the Lord or His Word as the Lord watches us every single day of our lives, a great chapter of Psalms too.
Psalms 1 goes..
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6[b] For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Happy mylotting !

A friend of mine never like the psalms and the Old Testament, in particular. She likes the New Testament because it's like a map to her that guides her always. Well, I like the Old Testament book because I like to read the times when God would talk directly to His people - Adam & Eve and Moses and those times when people are much closer to God. Thank you for responding to this discussion and sharing with me/us here in myLot your favorite psalm. :) hope you have a nice day. :)

I understand that there are Christians who play favorite with the books, chapters or verses in the Bible. But truth be told that the Old Testament was written to remind us believers today how God has been just and faithful to His people - the Jews and would reflect to the Christians today, I hope your friend would be able to appreciate the beauty of the Old Testament. Afterall the Bible can't be called one without the O.T.
Stay blessed !

Psalm 139
For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1 O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.
5 You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, [a] you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to [b] me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.
19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD,
and abhor those who rise up against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
