I felt so ill last night I thought I was dying....

I did, honest. Let me tell you all about it, I wear a nose stud and I have had this piercing for about ten years and never had a problem with it. Well yesterday, I went to put a stud in my nose as normal and noticed that my nose was a bit tender so I left it out. By lunch time of yesterday it was throbbing, so I took some painkillers to try and shift it, but they did not really do much. I went and picked the kids up from school and we got home and I started to feel ill, really listless and just had no energy whatsoever and my nose was killing me. I managed to just about get things done and I got the kids to bed and I was going to just relax a bit when I started with a pain in my head, and it was bad, it was so bad I felt like I was going to throw up and it was continuous. I took some stronger painkillers to try and get rid of it but it would not shift and at 8pm I went to bed, the pain in my head and nose was that bad that I did wonder for a bit if I was going to wake up the next morning!. But I did wake up although I slept solid until 8am this morning, and I got myself an appointment for the docs, and it turns out I have a severe infection in my nose probably from my nose stud! I feel a bit better now, but WOW, did that knock me off my feet and it came on so fast. Have you ever had an illness or infection come on real fast and knock you off your feet? What was the last bad illness that you had?

Hey hun, i hope you're feeling better now?! That sounds nasty and very painful! I think the last time i was really really ill was when i had mastoiditis (an infection in the bone behind the ear) i was in so much pain i blanked out for a while but i can just remember screaming with the pain, which is really unlike me i'm usually quite uncomplaining!! I wouldn'y wish that on my worst enemy!! I hope the doc has prescribed you some antibiotics that'll be kicking in really soon! xxx

Oohh OUCH, I had ear infection ONCE and that was enough, pain, that is pain. But never in the bone. Yes I have a cream for my nose that I have to stick up there, makes my nose go numb too which is rather bizarre but although it is still sore and swollen it is not as bad, and does not seem to be throbbing in time to my heartbeat anymore!!

I haven't got the words to describe how painful it was, they put me on orphine, i can remember my boyfriend counting down how long it took for it to make me spaced out before bed!! lol I hate it when things throb like that, the numbness is probably a good thing if it's still so sore!! Are you going to be able to put your nose stud back in when it's healed? xx

had this really bad technically unexplainable rash all over me last year. was little blisters and menge` did it itch like a b|tch! clothes would hurt.. so i spent 2 weeks pretty much naked trying not to rip my flesh off to the bone. now ive got this serious aversion to anything that itches. drives me completely out of my tree.

So you must have been allergic to something then, I have had unexplained rashes but never with blisters that must have been horrible.

doc ran tests.. they all came back negative. said it was some sort of bacterial thing maybe.. but wasnt viral. categorized as "hand, mouth, foot disease" because i had blisters there too, but no real actual explanation for it. and yeah.. was absolute frigen torture!! like an army of ants crawlng all over yer entire body day in day out for 14 freakin days! hell i tell you HELL!! **itches at the thought of it**

Glad to hear that you got into the Doctor, and got something for it. Infections like that are very important to get something for. I have had plenty of Bad infections myself over time, and it is NO Fun. Since I am Diabetic, I find myself having to be extra careful as well. The last time I was really sick though was most of April this yr when I got a really Bad cold which ended up turning into Bronchitis etc. as well. It was NO Fun for sure. I missed a lot of work because of it, and was on antibiotics etc. Will be lifting you up in Prayer for you to feel better soon.

I am glad that you are better now, I remember that you had bronchitis. I am pretty much recovered now, just a slight pain in my nose still but nothing near as bad as it was.

I think that I am quite strong, I guess I have to be because I have no one to fall back on when it comes to picking the kids up from school, there is only me. But at least I could get to bed early and sleep the pain in my head off. I used to suffer with pms and it is horrible.

The last bad illness I had was in February when I had the flu. Just like you it came on so fast and without warning. I was at church, and my nose was runny and I was sneezing, since it was February, I did not pay much attention to the fact that I was cold. My husband's son had invited us for dinner at his new house, and pushing aside how I felt I decided to go. My throat began to hurt, and my step son's wife fixed me tea, and I took some cough medicine there. By the time we left, and we left because I was not feeling any better, I was aching, and coughing and had the chills. I came home, took more medicine wrapped up in blankets and went to bed. I woke up during the night and had to throw up, I was so dizzy and light headed. The coughing increased. The next morning, my husband said, I know you are not going to work. I called in, and got back into bed. I was so weak, achy, and couldn't keep anything down. For three days, I stayed in bed without eating anything. I couldn't even hold liquids down. By the fourth day, I was feeling a little better, and went to work. That flu, is something else, I did not get over it right away, it was at least two weeks before I started feeling like myself. I can relate to how you must have felt. I am glad you are feeling better now. Are you going to let the nose ring hole close up, or are you going to continue wearing the ring once your infection is gone?

I have only ever had flu once and it was awful so I know how you felt and it does come on fast, I was like you, except I went to work! I literally had to crawl, it was awful and in the end I had to be taken home. I am feeling better now, although my nose is still throbbing in tune to my heart beat which is quite strange! I am not sure if I will continue to wear my stud or not, I do not want to be like this again!

My worst illness was in 8th grade and it was probably mono but the doctor was not sure. It started when i kinda felt like i had a cold but everything seemed fine and than a little bit later at soccer practice i felt really winded and hadnt really been doing anything, from that point i just got more and more tired until i couldnt move at all. For about two weeks i couldnt move or very little movment came at all and i never ate anything i literally got 20 lbs lighter than i had been, which in my case was good, but it was awful at the time, i ended up having to just drink pedialite and eat jello since those were the only things i could stomach and than once i did get up the courage to eat, mac and cheese, i threw it up right as i had eaten the last bite, it really sucked and it sucked even more not knowing what it was, but my friend just got sick like that too and the doctors didnt know what hers was ether and she had the same symptoms as me.

I think an illness is always worse if a doctor cannot find out what it is and give a medicine to cure it. As soon as I got my prescribed medicine and took it I started to feel better within a couple of hours and although I am still in pain it is no where near as bad as last night.

hi gemini_rose! that was really scary. its stuffs like that that i get thankful i don't have piercings like that or anything that can give me infection. maybe some dirt got into the hole in your nose within the piercing. its a wonder though that you'd get the infection now after having it for ten years. but its a good thing that you're ok now. i haven't suffered for anything that's really bad lately. the last very bad health problem i encountered was a skin allergy. at least that what's i think it is. the doctor didn't really name it. he just prescribed me some meds. but that was a long time ago. it never happened again. next to it is high fever and body aches. i get that from the drastic changes in weather and lack of sleep. yesterday i had a terrible headache because of the heat and the sudden cold. it was so terrible i felt like throwing up. i was cursing and cursing it. good thing it disappeared even before i decided to take a medicine.

WOW! glad you are O.K that's really strange though... I've never had anything like that but a couple years ago I woke up feeling really ill and as the day went on it got worse until I finally passed out three times within about fifteen minutes...they could find nothing to cause this and all my blood work and urine was normal... Scary just the same! Take Care ~Heavens~

It was strange because I was fine all day, I was even on here for a couple of hours, but by the night time I could hardly get the energy up to walk. I wonder what was wrong with you, I can imagine it was scary. Passing out is horrible, I had sinusitis once and I kept passing out with that.

Wow, that is really scary that an infection can come on you and get you that sick so fast. Glad you caught it and are getting well! I have only had something come on that fast if it was a flu, and of course when I get a migraine. But nothing that was an infection thank goodness!

I don't get sick very often, lucky me, and when I do, it doesn't get that bad, usually just a sinus infection. But it amazes me that you could get so ill from an infection in your nose! Is this going to make you think twice about wearing the stud? I think it would definitly change my mind on it... but I'm not a jewelry type person. I wear my ring and that is it. When I was 18 I had my eyebrow and tongue pierced, but they didn't last long. Within a year I took both studs out and the holes have long since closed up.

I do not get ill that often either, I am really lucky *touch wood* for not getting colds or sicky bugs but this knocked me off my feet, literally! And yes it has made me think twice about putting it back in, yet I have had one in for ten years and I always buy new ones and throw old ones out to stop infections so I really do not know what happened here.

i didn't experience that kind of pain and infection. but the worse i had was with toothache before. it was really bad. i was so afraid to go to the doctor so i just chose to stay with the pain. the pain just came at night and so after three nights in pain i decided to go to the doctor. and thankfully i did. cause it was really unbearable. it felt like i want to slam my head on the wall. that was really terrible.

Gemini, Ouch! I sure hope you are feeling better. Be careful with anything that gets infected from your neck up, it can get to your brain fast and really hurt you. A few years back I helped a friend of mine clean out the basement of an old house. It had old tires and all kinds of "moist crap" under it. Somehow or the other I sratched myself and hadn't realized that I did. Later that evening I started feeling bad and after a shower, I found the scratch and it was FIRE RED. In just a matter of a few hours I got so sick that I went to the hospital. It seems the yucky stuff had got into my blood system through the scratch and sent a infection all through my body. I had to stay at the hospital with IV's for several hours till they got the infection under control. Several days later, my whole body seemed to itch and my shin got real dry. But, thank goodness that was the results of the meds and the infection getting out of my system. Take care of yourself!

It is so easy to pick up infections. I am glad that yours was sorted out with the iv, but it sounds pretty yucky.

I'm so sorry to hear about your illness gemini_rose and I hope you are doing better now that you have seen your doctor. I am surprised that your nose stud caused an infection after having the piercing for 10 years. Wow, I harp at my customers (I sell body jewelry) about cleaning their jewelry before inserting all the time but I never do it myself because all my piercings are fairly old too. I will be sure to wash them all before I put them in now! Do you have any idea how the infection could have happened? I have never had any illness or infection come on real fast like that, just the usual colds and flu in the wintertime. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.

I know, it surprised me that this happened after so long of having the piercing. I clean my jewellery when I take it out, but I guess it could have come from the box that I keep it in, whatever it was it was painful and not very nice at all. I shall be making sure I take better care of it, if I ever put one in again. Its put me off a bit to be honest.

For me, it had to be a REALLY bad bladder/kidney infection back in late 2003/2004. I have a bit of a problem--I get bladder infections that I don't notice any symptoms, and that's what happened this time. My body had been fighting it off so far, so when I began having what I thought were chills, I didn't think too hard and took some Theraflu. It got so bad that I couldn't stay warm, no matter what, and I finally had enough one day at work. I decided that if I wasn't better at the end of my shift, I was heading to the ER. They started running tests and discovered me so ill and deydrated that I was given five bags of fluid and pumped full of antibiotics. Apparently I was THIS close to being hospitalized.

hi gemini rose oh yes it was not diverticulitis as my doctor thought but something worse, he gave me two prescriptions for antibiotics and I took them over that weekend then got up Monday morning with half of my abdomen covered in blisters.I thought oh no I am allergic to those antibiotics so called my doctors office and he told the nurse to tell me to go to E R as he still thought I had diverticulitis. now I was hurting so bad in the left side of my abdomen and I had to wait my turn after they put me in a cubicle. finally the er doctor came, took one look at my throbbing abdomen and said,Mrs.Hatley I have good news and bad news, good news is it isnt diverticulitis, bad ones is you have shingles. oh yes pain needle stabs and this occupied all of this past summer too, finally all but two small patches are gone but if I get stressed more needle stabs of nerve pain return to haunt me again.what a way to spend the summer!!!!
