How many different ingredients do you use in your chili?

My husband wanted me to start this discussion. He really loves my chili but would like some different ways to make it. I use hamburger, onion, chili seasoning, and chili beans. Sometimes I will add a can of chopped up tamales for a little variety. I prefer the packaged chili seasoning over just plain chili powder because it's already measured and I am a lazy cook! LOL. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I use meat (ground beef or ground turkey), chili beans, dark kidney beans, and canned diced or stewed tomatoes. I also make my own seasoning with chili powder, garlic, onion, and cumin- lots of cumin! Sometimes I add some corn or some diced peppers. Then I serve it with sour cream and lots and lots of cheese.

You're probably already using cumin in your chili- it's usually one of the spices that are in those chili seasoning packets. Most of the time the ingredients just say "spices" without specifying which ones. Cumin is pretty much the quintessential spice for Mexican food. Even though a lot of people don't know what it is, specifically, they still recognize that "Mexican" flavor in chili, tacos, burritos, etc.

I've heard a lot of people use cumin in their chili. I'd like to try that too, thanks. Oh yeah, you can't have chili without cheddar cheese..to coin a phrase..YUMO!

I use hamburger, onion, kidney beans, tomato sauce or tomato paste, salt, pepper, chili powder, hot sauce. You know, I was going to make meatloaf for dinner tonight but chili sounds good. I think I'll do that instead. Thanks for the idea!

I had a bag of dry kidney beans in the cupboard so just put them on to soak. I usually use the canned beans for chili and such, but thought I'd go ahead and use up these beans. I guess we're trading places for dinner tonight then, huh? LOL ...

I make my own chili seasoning for my chili. 2 tbsp. chili powder 1 tbsp. seasoned salt 2 tsp. cumin 1 tsp. oregano 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. onion powder 1/2 tsp. garlic powder I use about a heaping tablespoon for each pound of meat being used. Other than the seasoning I use ground beef, light red kidney beans, a can of tomatoes, a can of tomato sauce, onion, and top it off with more onion, shredded cheese and sour cream.

Mostly I do not use the chilly powder but i like green seasoned chilly. I use to grind the green chillies and keep that in the fridge whenever to cook some thing use use it. Doctors also advise use of green chilly instead of red chilly powder. Without the chilly the stuff is not so tasty and delicious.
