Would you repair your three year old digital camera?

I have a Fuji A350 model which I bought three years ago and it has a defect. The lens seems faulty and sometimes the images get blurred. The technician checked it and said that my camera needs a new lens unit to fully clear the defect. As the problem is erratic- only happening now and then- a replacement lens costing €60.00 may seem a bit too much.
What is your advice should I change the lens unit or not? Should I repair it or buy a new one?

Look ahead ronaldinu, if that old digital camera has served its purpose let it rest.
But if you think it still can fulfill its duty well and can go head to head with the other competitions might try fixing the lens. As I am looking at the Fuji A350, it seems a little bulky and really lack of depth when it comes to features. If you have some extra bucks might try to find a new one.
So if you will choose a brand new digital camera. Here are the brand to chose from Canon which is always ahead in this kind of technology, second Sony which is a bit pricy then there are Kodak and Olympus which is lower in price and in quality than the first that I mentioned. Here are some list of nice digital cameras that you can look in the net. Canon Powershot SD750 which cost around $170-$180 has 7 megapixels with 4 times zoom and excellent high-ISO photo quality. If you want a cheaper canon camera try Canon Powershot A470, which is $110- $130 it also has 7 megapixel a 3.4 zoom magnification. One downside is that its speeds are not as fast and not your best choice in capturing action shots. If you prefer Sony try looking at this model Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 it cost around $160-$190.
So all in all I think you should browse the net first before making any decisions. There's a lot of new gadget out there if you do have the money to spend on it. Anyways there is no harm in browsing.

i totally agree that it is better to buy a new one cause digital cameras are much cheaper now that before and there are many better cameras now. and so i think with the cost the repair will like buying a digital camera and so it is better to buy a digital camera. and i think that you have to look for a good brand and model.

This repair fee is so expensive. If I were you, I would not fix it any more. I will add some money to buy another new digital camera. As to this old one, perhaps you can give it to someone else. If they need it, then they fix it.
I love China

Better save some more and buy a new one ronald. I believe that is more practical. New and more updated models are out in the market at affordable prices so instead of bothering to have that old camera repaired just buy a new one and get even more satisfied with the newest technology.

Nope!I wouldn't repair my 3 year old camera.I'd say buy a new one. With so many models being released and with cheap prices to boot, I'd be more certain that I'd get my money's worth when I buy a new one.For the price of the repair you can get a new camera already and if you add just a bit more, you can get a better camera.Do not subject yourself to the exhaustion of getting your old camera repaired only to have it act up after some time.Spare yourself the trouble and shop for a new one.Good luck!

I wouldn't pay for, but I would try to do it myself.
It happened with my old camera. I have Nikon from 1999, first advanced digital camera.
They told me it can cost $300 to repair.
I took it apart and placed parts back, starts working again....

No, if it is three years old, I would let it go. Specially now that models of camera keep changing and upgrading every month or so. However it is just a small price to pay then I would consider getting it done. Sometimes, having a gadget repaired costs more than buying another unit so I would consider my options carefully.

Hi ronald,
If that is mine, I will try to sell it and them get another one! But, when it is given to me, I will treasure it and just keep it with me after changing the lens!

I have decided to keep it and use it until I can since the fault is intermittent.

being honest no I wouldn't try and have it repaired I would buy a new one simply the older one would probably cost the same to repair as a new one to buy...littleowl

i dont know how many megapixels it is but it being 3 years old its probably so low that you really should just get a new one and update it.. i know the typical mp now is like 7-8.. i wouldnt go any lower than 8 but if you really shop around online you can get a really good deal.. i know its gonna cost more but in the long run it will be worth it since you wont want to replace or feel like you need to update it in a year or two.. would suck to pay that then turn around and spent a ton more for a new one ya know??

If the camera was sentimental value or it it was a very valuable camera then I would probably pay the €60. Also if it works out cheaper to have it fixed rather than pay more for one of the same quality then I wouldn't buy another one. I don't think you could buy a good digital camera for €60 so it might be in your best interest to have this one fixed.

If it were me and the lens was only going to cost me that much I would probably just buy the lens and fix the digital camera I have because a new camera can be rather expensive to say the least, and with the way prices are going up on everything it is better to save money whenever you can,so my advice would be buy the lens, and probably save yourself some money which is better in my opinion, but the choice is yours and yours alone.

I think you should ask for an estimate first. If repairing your camera will cost a lot, then just buy a new one. Unless you don't have the funds, that is. :) The newer models are way better than your 3 year old for sure. :) I myself would like to buy a new digital camera this Christmas. I can't wait for the great bargains online!!!

No I'd just get a new one. technology becomes so obsolete so quickly these days that you could probably find a much better updated one for not much more than it would cost to replace it. I think in the long run buying a new one would be the better investment

I guess it's better if you already buy a new one. You may not know it that you are already spending on repairs and replacement of specs that is as much as a cost of buying a new digital camera.
