Pit Bull Rescue

I was like a lot of people not so long ago and was afraid of pit bulls. Society makes them out to be monsters and since I had never actually met one I believed it. Then I met Diamond and she was the sweetest most goofy dog ever. Diamond lived at the end of a very long, very big chain for the first 8 months of her life. She was mistreated and the woman who actually owned her had not the first clue how to care for her. At 8 months old Diamond had only been to the vet once in her life and gotten only her first round of shots. I am surprised she made it to her 8 months, but she did. My husband and I adopted Diamond and in less than a month I was in love with the pit bull breed and dying for another one. My husband dog died not long after Diamond came to live with us, he was a 12 yr old lab/shepherd mix. I started looking in shelters and the humane society, but to my horror I found they will not adopt out pits or pit mixes in the surrounding 3 counties. In fact they are all euthanized after keeping them only 10 days in case they are claimed. I had to drive to Austin, 4 hours away, to get our newest pup, Bettie. Bettie is a gorgeous champagne colored pit with a red nose. At $200 she was a real bargain, cheaper, and closer than any pit rescue I could find. We have had Diamond for over a year now and Bettie for a couple of months. They are spoiled rotten and we have decided that we want to help the other pits in our area. So we are opening a Bullie Rescue. Does anyone else out there have experience in animal rescues or pit bull training and such. If so I would love to hear from you and maybe get some ideas, advice, or help.
