It took me about a month!...maybe longer...I know that's a long time but I really didn't know what I was doing and I keep changing it and thinking of new things to add.

probably you haven't planned it well on what you would like to have in your website. it just took me hours to build mine and from there, i just keep on adding and adding more pages and links and the rest are history. although i am not an expert in web designing but i have some knowledge enough for me to survive in making sites that is with in my preference. set a goal on what you want viewers to see in your site and you can work it out with the available options specially that the free sites has limited options and sometimes you won't be able to do what you want to appear.

Building a site in hours is great!...maybe it won't take me as long next time...I always have alot of ideas but I don't want the site to be so cluttered that the information is missed or confusing...so it takes me longer to try to figure out what to keep and what to leave out.

hello
it's really don't take longer if you have the good idea and the envy to working to, the content you gona insert to your future website ...
This is the points that you will need, otherwise the conception is really easy and don't take time.

if you have good ideas you can do a good website not so complicated in 1 night, if you start with no ideas it can take a little bit but the quality is obviously better. New things to add is a good think, you have ideas so is not important how does it takes but how much user friendly is.
