Idiotic Discussions

Australia

Please tell, there are other people, lots of other people, thousands of other people on the site who feel the same frustration as I do having to wade through dozens of vacuous, inane, bigoted, or just plain stupid discussions to find something worth responding to? I suppose that's a problem inherent in any system that pays on quantity rather than quality. I'm sure some people sit there deliberately starting subject after subject with whatever inanity pops into their heads (I hesitate to say brains). Maybe I should start a thread on Do Chickens Think, or Why Does My Dog Scratch Himself All the Time, or Do You Hate Flies? Bah! Lash

i don't think them are idiotic, because sometime found them interesting to see so many people are different attitude toward a thing.

You know, I mentioned this same topic to my husband just yesterday. It irritates the stew out of me to have to wade through the garbage to get to something interesting to discuss. I guess if we all quit responding to the discussions posted for the sake of posting, we might get some more meaningful topics to discuss.

I'm pleased to see that the bulk of the responses have been supportive. And even more amused that this topic, the least 'serious' of any I have started, is now the most responded to of all of them. Lash

I responded to an idiotic discussion on someone who wondered if you use a cell phone will sitting on the toilet - I really told that person off - and i have seen discussions on whether someone walks around the house naked. (I have yet to see a discussion on whether you go out the house naked and walk downtown, but I am sure that someone here will ask it.) But the worse is those about those filthy habits like scratching yourself, throwing up in public, do you keep a clean house, etc. I mean why not put our real names and addresses here plus the directions how to get to where we live, because obviously some myLotter would want to check us out. Makes as much sense.

The people who start a lot of meaningless discussions are the ones who don't know how the site works, and have not read or understood the guidelines. MyLot does pay more for quality but too many new users think they can earn more by starting a lot of discussions. A discussion with no responses will earn nothing. Responses of three or four words do not earn anything. Writing good quality responses, and starting topics that get quality responses, adds much more to earnings than you can ever earn by starting idiotic discussions. Sadly there will always be new users who mistakenly think myLot is one of those sites that pays the same amount for each post. It does not.

You know, grandpa, just put on your waders and keep wading through the garbage, there's a treasure in there, somewhere.*S*

I stand corrected, thank you paid2 and the others who pointed out that the site does pay on quality. S5t6ill leaves the problem of wading through the garbage, but hey, that's life. Lash

Yes, yes, and absolutely yes. The only thing we can do is give them a - to lower their ranking, so they earn less money. That way, they learn. Hopefully. I don't know if they're smart enough to get that. But I'm mildly frustrated with the sloppy discussions.

Well , all I can say really is , why not? Why not just jibber on about chicken heads or the color of your cats feces. Never know you may just learn something or laugh a little . Well I guess there is the possibility your IQ might lower a bit from some of these topics , but seriously , I run into so many classes of people a day . I am new here and what I have learned from your discussion in particular is that I am going to rate discussion like I rate new people I meet. I do not judge the book by its cover kind of thing , so in that respect I will not judge the discussion by its topic . eh never know , life is too long to worry .

Although i agree there are many many discussions on here that i find Idiotic and below the intellectual bar, for many people on mylot, the are the sort of discussion they prefer to respond to. I find the more ridiculous the discussion topic, the more responses the subject is likely to get. The level of thought required is minimal and the cent gained is the same. In short, most responders are not operating at a significant intellectual level, therefore the discussions are appealing to the lowest common denominater. In the Uk we call them Sun readers, one could also think of them as window lickers. Dont be become frustrated with them, just let them play. Content yourself with your superiority and recognise, one person's stupid discussion could be just what someone else has come on to the site for blessed be

My Gosh, you have just been to MYLOT and you are critising already. My friend if there are discussions that you are not interested in just go past it. No one is forcing you to respond and this is the beauty of MYLOT. You have a choice. Stop critising and enjoy yourself. By the way WELCOME TO MYLOT.

Because every body is free here to write what ever they think and feel that is the reasons the people write here what ever comes to their head and do not find any merit in t to be discussed. I too find that in some of the writings there is nothing to be discussed but people respond these discussion and they get encouragement to write more like that.

I Find it amusing that in 35 minutes this discussion has already got almost the most responses of any of the serious discussions I have started. Lash

There are people on here that type whatever sudden thought pops into their heads and it can be frustrating The sadness is theirs though in the end because this site does seem to pay better for quality as opposed to quantity

I agree on that, due to the need to earn, some reply just for the sake of it. Thinking of what you will earn really is a good motivation, every time I reply some of the topics here, I really am curious on how many cents my earnings would be, but it doesn't mean I dont care on what the person will feel after replying his/her discussions. It is best to start a relevant discussion that could benefit both parties.

yes, i feel the same way as you do! i really try to think about my topics before i start a new discussion... is it interesting, something i think people will want to respond to, something i would want to respond to, etc. but i also have to scroll through so much junk to just find anything good to respond to. sometimes i don't even understand what the post is about or what the person is trying to say. i try to keep an open mind about it since i know everyone thinks and writes down their thoughts differently, but it is very frustrating. especially when, like others have said, these silly one-liners seem to be getting the most responses! lol

I find that if a topic doesn't interest me I just don't respond. And I have discoverd ( I am new at this) that they actually do pay for quality as opposed to quantity. If you're running into a lot of meaningless topics then just don't respond to them and start something meaningful to you. I do find som rather amusing ones though I must say! LOL Have a great day!

I cannot say that i think that way Anyone that posts a message deserves my support and attention Remember i am saying this because it is how i feel I would never judges others who do not agree with me Think of so many things in life ...I love that book.....That was the most terrible reading i have ever attempted ....That was a great movie and should get an oscar ....another that movie should be trashed not worth keeping or watching for that matter ....If you keep your posts down to a dozen or so a day and that is away too many for me personally there is less likely "idiotic" posts I think those come from many who want to post numbers and that is their main motivation ....20 minutes a day here is my limit and i will not become addicted as it seems many are Good Luck I will be responding 99percent of the time so my discussions will not be a factor Have a Great Day

I do not have too much of a problem with inane discussions because I choose my friends pretty carefully most have pretty much the same interests as I do. I do not have more friends than I can handle by turning all their notification on so I never go searching for discussions to respond to. If a new friend only posts idiotic disscussion then I delete them. Simple huh?

I became quite jaded by this same thing about 6 - 7 months ago and came very close to burb-out on here. So I started my own interest category which you of course know of! It's never been about the number's game for me and I abhor those that play it, You come to know pretty quickly who those people are too and I avoid them like the plague. I'm one of these firm believers of going my own way and leaving a trail when the "mainstream" are becoming too predictable and repetitive. I reckon you should look to create something new yourself Lash, a new category..... I'll back ya!

Yes I agree there are way too many idiotic discussions on this site. I try to respond to people who have no responses to be nice and help them out. I know how sad it can be when no one replies to a post. But I have to scroll through lots of discussions with no responses to try and find something I can actually reply to. I am also surprised that some people get over 100 responses to discussions about wow some people get over 100 responses do you. I think its sad but it is also possible that some of the serious discussions here are just too hard for some of the members here who do not have English as a first language. I have found that I actually enjoy offering advice to people who ask for help. Maybe it is something that grew out of my days as a voluntary union official where I was a mixture of advocate and counselor to people who were being harassed and were desperate for someone to help them. But it really does take a long time to sort through all the silly discussions to find something I want to reply to. I have even seen some member post the identical discussion twice.

I think that 'why are there fleas outside?' would be a great discussion! Seriously, I go through the discussions that appear on my home page sometimes and wonder what are these people thinking. I see one person sometimes starting one discussion after another with only a few sentences in each and absolutely no substance! And here I sit, trying to figure out a good discussion. And what is puzzling is that some of those get the most hits!

Well I feel your frustration and know what you are going through having to scan through all those Junk write up mostly necessitated by the need to increase their earning while leaving sanity outta the window. Well I very much hope you you put up more sensible discussions that will see people getting clues as to the ethics of posting views and opinions and enjoying it....Learning and earning at the same time....
