I was brought up being told to drink my milk, its full of calcium, it's good for your bones and so on. It's now 2008 and people are more aware now and they are still consuming the milk of another species, how right is this ?? drinking the puss from another animal sounds disgusting but that is what we do, I even drink it in my coffee but I have over the last few years taken to drinking soya milk on my breakfast, and I feel good about that.

I do believe the milk has some benefits to humans but it is not a necessary part of our diets. Humans are the only species on earth that continue to drink milk past infancy. i hardly drink milk... it's never been my favorite thing. Though, it is def good with things like cookies and peanut butter sandwiches! lol

I don't really see anything morally wrong about drinking milk from another species. If you think about it, it is a little gross- I mean, who first had the idea to try it? But I like dairy products, particularly cheese, so I don't worry about it too much. When it comes to plain milk though, for cereal or to drink, I usually use soymilk. It usually has as much calcium in it as regular milk does, and has other health benefits that milk doesn't have. One thing to be careful of is that drinking a lot of soymilk can lead to a higher risk of thyroid disorders, if you don't get enough iodine. So I take a vitamin supplement that has iodine in it just to make sure.

The studies on soy consumption and thyroid disorder are not completely conclusive, but overall they have found that consuming large amounts of soy can be a risk factor in hypothyroidism, especially for people who do not have enough iodine in their diet. Of course, the amount of iodine in a person's diet might depend on where they live and what kinds of foods they consume. In the United States, we do not eat enough foods that contain iodine on a regular basis. Most US residents do not consume kelp or other seaweed products regularly, except for those of us who eat a lot of sushi. The main source of most US residents' iodine is iodized table salt. I usually use kosher sea salt, which is not iodized, so I don't even get that source. That is why I take an iodine supplement.

Please tell me more about how drinking alot of soya milk can give you thyroid problems ??? I thought that Iodine was considered a poison if taken in large quantities. I was aware that it is a chemical that our thyroid gland actually needs in minute amounts in order to function normally but either a normal varied diet or sea kelp could supply sufficient quantities .

I was also always told to drink milk for strong bones and I don't mind the taste of milk. I've heard good news about soy milk but not so sure if I'd like the taste of it.

If you are thinking that soya milk could be better for your health than cows milk then, why not give it a try ???? you might surprize yourself.

Drinking cows milk is fine ,there is no wrong in that, when we were kids we used to go to the farm up the road and we would get the billy can filled with milk warm and fresh from the cow,it wasnt pasteurised or treated in any way,we just used to drink it,it was all we had,so there wasnt any choice, and it certainly didnt harm us,the milk was creamy and it tasted good. But the milk that we buy now is really like coloured water, its just white liquid there is no substance to it,there is no cream on the top if it either,if you ask me its just a poor excuse for milk.

Milk has actually been proven not as good as they lead you to believe. It can cause diabetes, certain cancers, and can cause osteoporosis! Thats what the commercials tell you it helps fight! LIARS! I drink soy milk. I would go without it if I could by I cook a lot and eat cereal. There's just no other substitute!
