We always clear the table and put the food away while the guest is still there but as for washing the dishes, no, we wait until after our guests have left then we do the dishes. The only time we do the dishes when a guest is still here is if the guest is "pushy" and insists on helping do the dishes or if they are staying the night (obvious).

it depends.. we usually wash the dishes after our guest are done eating, not while they are eating.. however, there are sometimes that we wash some dishes while they were there, but only few ones..when our guests are done eating, we talk to them in the living room or garden afterwards...and the others washes the dishes...

Yup, it's kinda rude, because the guest might feel that they are being rushed into finishing their food, because the host will have to wash the dishes again after them, and thus they will not enjoy their meal at peace.. hehe =D
BUt for me, normally i will finish my meal 1st and just wash up my own dishes b4 they even start to eat.. lol =D So in a way, in their mind will be only thinking, i'm a fast eater and that's it.. lol

Maybe clear thm away, and put the dishes in the kitchen, but if the guests have come for just the evening then you will need to spend time chatting with them, and if you are washing dishes then you cant do both, but if the guests are staying with you ,im sure that Like many of you I would clear the dishes and maybe hope the guests would muck in and help out a little.

Well our kitchen is near the lounge so we are able to chat and wash the dishes as well.
It depends on what we have eaten, if its just sarnies, salad etc we will very often leave them and do them when the guests/ family have gone. If it is a hot meal with saucepans etc then we will do the dishes when everyone has finished the meal.
I would never expect anyone to wash up in my house etc.
This only happens as our house is open planned. If the kitchen was cut off totally then we would leave everything until later but with four children its better to muti task and if we are busy in the kitchen area then its the children'r turn to chat to the guests.

I like to do the dishes after the guest has left as I want them to leave having had a good visit and not feel they need to help doing them ,I also like to give guests my attention and not focus on something else.

Hi
it was depend like for good social manner we supposed to do after the guest have already left but ,sometime we might not have enough dishes so we have to do for them i think in this case should be okey .......like when I was a child I was helping my mom to do the dish during the customer were taking nooddle at my mom restuarant and at the same time I pick the dish and clean them for make sure I have them enough.
Thanks and have a good day

For us Filipinos, we only do the dishes after the guest has left because it will make them feel awkward if they are still eating and we are starting to clean the table and we do not want them to think of something bad towards us. Because most of the guest will think that we will want him/her to eat faster so that he/she could go home.
