When I got separated with my ex-husband I have a very low self-esteem simply bec. I was a plain housewife and just reached third year college and I worry a lot that time that nobody will hire me bec. I did not finish my degree in college.
A friend of mine who graduated from a known public college (u.p.d) told me that it's not the degree you received in college but how willing are you and how you show perseverance at work. There are known people around the world who didn't even finish college but are successful in their own ways or the field where they are at right now.
I guess building confidence and boosting self esteem helped them to become successful.I lost my confidence after separation but I am so thankful that I have a friend who helped me realize that I need to regain my esteem and I was told that I have to always remember that everybody has the potential to be successful, you just have to know how you deal with the job and people around you will notice that even a person without a degree can also excel in any task assign to that person.
Happy mylotting to all.

As a college graduate I can tell you they are not. I know so many people who went to school wiht me who just barely made good enough grades to pass their classes becasue they spent all of their time partying and who now have degrees but are still lazy and not doing anything productive with thier lives.

It depends on the person really. And your friend is right. Some rich and famous people didn't even finished college. And one great example is Bill Gates. he was a dropout in Harvard University (dropped out in 1975, honorary degree in 2007). He founded Microsoft and became the riches man in the world and after that became the honorary degree holder because of his accomplishments in the world. And not only him other people who are successful are school dropouts like the owner of Dell, and many more. It is based on the person if you really want to succeed. But it would really help if you have one. Why not try to take the bridge program offered by DECS so you can finsh college. You are already in third year so just a few more years. I even saw lolos still studying. Even Manny Pacquiao is studying, and I think his still in high school or just finished. Just pick up the pieces and move forward. Happy myLotting!

I think you should be able to 'test out' to get a degree, even if you didn't go to college or don't feel like putting in that time. If you have experience and knowledge FROM that experience, you'd think you could prove that on a test and receive the degree based on what you know, not on completing courses.

I think it is very important if you finish your course. Having a degree is a key to many doors. You always read and find jobs on a news paper for example that they are hiring but if you take a look the qualification most of them needs of experience and 4years graduate. For those who only finish 2yrs in school it would be dificult for them to find an easy job. I suggest you finish it then get a vocational technical course it is more demand for most company.

U.P.D. looks like university of the Phil, Diliman. Any way you have an uncanny advantage. Most graduates from colleges are like canned sardines. They are made from the same mold. This type of learning stifles creativity and free creative expression. That's why many successful entrepreneurs and inventors have no college degrees. People like Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Nikola Tesla and Edison have achieve so much due to their ability to think out of the box. Their creativity were enhanced to dizzying heights due to their lack of orthodox education. Forget about applying for a job to the companies, why not make your own? Trust your gut feelings! Be an entrepreneur, be an employer instead of an employee. Be a trailblazer. Be unique, be bold, be brave, don't worry about what they say. Forged your own path.

Yup good positions in most companies are good for those who graduated from college. But it's good that callcenters are here in the phils. and they are like mushrooms they hire people and provide filipinos opportunity to work as long as you know something about the basic use of pc and knows how to speak english.kudos to call center companies.
Glad that I am part of this industry bec. they don't also care about your age.As long as you can handle pressure too.But I just hope I was able to finish my degree.sigh.

I think to become successful, educational attainment is just a plus. What's important is what you think and how you think. If you can look at the future positively and persevere in life, being successful is not a hard task. As long you do your best and enjoy what you do.

Good for you that you have a friend who helped pull you out of the rut. When I was working with a big company, I saw many college students on internship who did not show the slightest inclination to do well. I may have been wrong at that time, but I am of the strong belief that attitude is key to becoming successful and not just a college degree. You may hold all sorts of degrees but if your work ethics leave a lot to be desired, you will most likely end up a loser. Sometimes, people who did so well in school do not necessarily turn out to be the most successful once out of school. Perseverance, dedication, commitment and the desire to continuously learn new things will keep you on the path to success.

You are absolutely correct. It's good that we have call centers in the phils. and they are giving opportunities to those people like me.I am happy with my job as tech.support rep. and I have an offer for Team Leader position but for a different account not in my account right now.See I don't have to finish my college just to be notice that even a person like me has the opportunity to succeed in life. And the office gives a chance for agents to finish their degree...so that's a good start.I've just celebrated my 2nd year for this type of job and I am still thankful that our company hired me and probably saw a potential in me.

It's very complicated to claim a person is superior to another.
I don't think someone with a college degree is superior to one that doesn't have that degree. Someone that graduates from college has indeed more knowledge in the field they graduated from than someone that hasn't finished college, but that doesn't make them a superior creature. We are all equal - some of us have better abilities in a field and other people in another field.
College graduates have more chances in getting a job in the field they graduated from, it's only natural, because they are expected to have better abilities.

I agree with your friend- not everyone that goes to college automatically becomes a success in life. I want to go to college but at the moment with the way the economy is, I have to hold off on it but I don't think I'm any less of a person than someone who has graduated.

School really has nothing to do with true success. I believe that there is a whole lot more to education and learning than just school. Einstein flunked out of math and he was a genious. Happiness is true success. No matter what you have done in your life, if you are truly happy you are successful.

When I got my masters degree from UP-D, Inever thought that I am better than most people. Even those who only had grade 1 for an education cant be called stupid or what. I am 100% sure, there are things he or she knows that I dont, just like I know things that others dont. No one is perfect with the laws of life. Each one of us has our own strategies.Be happy all the time.

I can say that I am lucky that despite my age and that I didn't finish college I was given a chance to work and I am doing well in our office.People like me and some see potentials in me to become a team leader.I just always put my feet on the ground and remain humble at the office.

You're friend is very right. My husband nor I went to college and we are doing pretty good for ourselves. We both work hard and know we have to do that to get what we want in the end. We are both in our early 20s and we have a home that is ours, we own, we do not rent. We also have a nice are and he has a nice F250 pick up.
The amazing thing is, his younger sister graduated from college and she works at a daycare earning less than I do!!! I guess it's all in what you go to school for and how hard you are willing to work to get what you want.

it is true that it is not necessary for one to get high degree to get successful, you can even with the degree much lower than others if you totally poured yourself to that career, your attitude your confidence and your perseverence determines everything,so you are right a person without a degree can also excel in any task assigned to that person.let the degree go away.

That's right.I still plan to apply to a higher position.I just don't know if it's important to have a degree.I haven't ask some people at the office if all Team Leaders are all college grad.sigh.As long as you show that you can do anything and can live up with the rules and the job then that doesn't make you a lesser person to those who have degrees.

No! There are college graduate that doesn't know the real scenario of life nowadays, some of them doesn't work related to their course and some of them are jobless. Meaning, the acquired diploma from graduation is not enough to be a better person. Better person for are those successful in life in term of health and wealth.

People are all the same. Some people are meant for formal education, some are not. Then there are others who don't go to college at all, and some don't even go through highschool, yet they find another way to make it in the world, and they do things that the rest of the world coudln't imagine. We are no better than anyone else, and nobody else is better than us. We are all equal.

Technically, graduating in college is an advantage because many companies prefer it but that does not mean that you are not good, those who graduated in college are luckier because they had the means.
For me, what matters is you learned enough, and you have enough knowledge to become a good worker, some did graduate but are still burden to their families.
You should be confident always, have a pleasant disposition because these motivations will help you attract employers. Just love your job and do your best always.

Having a degree is actually a BIG advantage.I am just glad that call centers hire people even without a degree as long as they are computer literate and can speak the english language that's fine with the company.
I am quite doing well now and my self-esteem has changed and I am thankful to my job right now bec. opportunities are not limited to those people who have finished a degree.
