I see that congress is trying to push through a 2nd Economic Stimulus Check before the Presidential election ~ Can you use another boost? I know I can! The bills do not stop and the prices of everything keeps getting more and more expensive. Between gasoline and food costs, electric, and soon higher heating bills I have less money to go around.

We all can but just remember.. if it is like the first one, and you get a refund from your IRS taxes come April 2009, that stimulus check amount you got this last May will be deducted from your refund. IF they do it again, they will probably do the same thing for the following year. Nice to have it now instead of later, but still, don't think they are doing you any favors. Thing is too, it is so small to do much and most will just pay off a bill, catch up on back payments of credit cards - not much will actually go back into the economy like they think it will.

??? I guess I missed some news somewhere -- who said that you have to "pay it back" out of your refund next year? What if you don't get a refund on your taxes -- won't be fair to take it back from only those that get a refund!!!!!!!!

Here's the previous discussions:

IF you get a refund this next year on April 15, 2009 you will have to deduct whatever you got as your "stimulus check" this past May. If your refund is more than the stimulus check amount, you get the balance, if it is less, you won't owe, you just don't get a refund at all and if you don't owe in the first place, you do nothing. They have even re-printed the 1040's to include a line at the bottom for this deduction. I just figure if they do another one next year, we'll have to deduct if from 2009 1040's.

I won't miss it--I didn't receive one to begin with. Unfortunately, our government punished me for not having enough income last year (I was self employed) and when they announced thechecks going out, I noticed that my accountant didn't tell me I didn't qualify for one. Apparently, if you didn't have at least $3000 in declarable income, you didn't qualify. I'm so glad the current administration is on the way out, alhough not before they destroyed most of the country financially.

Yeah, considering that in 2007 I bought a brand new hot water heater, a 2006 Suzuki XL-7, went on two business trips and spent quite a lot to fix up my house, it does seem rather unfair (and I didn't even get a refund last year!!!), to say the least. And now Co cress is talking about a $700 BILLION bailout (that could end up being $1.3 TRILLION!) makes me think Gee, just what DID those CEOs do to deserve those huge bonuses?

That's too bad. I know a few people who didn't get one. Doesn't seem fair.

While I could always use more money, I'm not sure this is a good idea. I think they're using it as a short term fix to get peoples minds off the bigger picture. Banks going under, major wall street firms going down, mortgage foreclosures, etc. I think our economy is in alot worse trouble than anyone is letting on. A few hundred dollars is not going to stimulate enough of anything to truly help IMO.

yes, I agree -- I do not think the dem's and the repub' parties agree on this
at all. We have some big problems in the U.S. -- it's gone over the edge, and
I'm not sure if there is enough money to bring it back on to solid ground
for some time.

I thought they had turned the second one down. I hadn't heard no more about it. I could sure use it right now though. My family sure has a hard time making ends meet right now also and we could sure use that money for alot of things.

I didn't even know they were considering a 2nd one until I ran across
some news reports on it. There are alot of families out there that are
having a rough time of it -- the prices going up, jobs being lost, the
whole economy swinging up and way down ........ I hope you and
your family can make it through without too much hardship. Thank you
for commenting and sharing. Judy

This would be great! I think we could all use the extra cash, not for frivolous spending but just to get by. I know that Obama mentioned the possibility but he also has an economic plan to help us get out of the mess we're in. The stimulus check is only a temporary fix - we still need to address several economic issues so that we don't end up in the same bind.

No matter who wins the election, I hope they get this country headed in the right economic direction! Every day it seems to get worse and worse.

I've got to get off myLot and start watching the news again..lol! I haven't heard about this stimulus check; but I hope it passes. I have more bills than Carter's got little liver pills and could use some help. We are all feeling the pinch of higher gas prices, I know.

Here is just a "blurb" about it -- there is more on on-line that you could easily find:
WASHINGTON, Sep. 10, 2008 (AP Online delivered by Newstex) -- With the economy the No. 1 issue just eight weeks from Election Day, majority-party Democrats are trying to push a second stimulus package through Congress to follow the tax rebate checks sent out earlier this year.

Thanks for the info, I'll be passing it along to my family. And thank you democrats, I really appreciate it; but I'm afraid I still have to remain loyal to the Republicans.

I'll never turn down free money. And I know alot of us could use it.
But blah to this entire situation. Amen?
