I remember when I was a little girl the teacher would assign the children a pen pal from another state which seemed like another world to me back then. I enjoyed the little naotes I wrote to my pen pal. My pen pal's name was sarah, a little girl from china. Did you have a pen pal? Do you think Pen Pal's are old fashion?

I don't think pen pals are old fashioned. But now a days we have online pen pals, it's cheaper and quicker and I did have a pen pal. She lived in MI and I lived in CA.

Ah yes, but with as much as we do online it pays for itself. With as many people as i e-mail everyday it would cost me a fortune to send all that by mail and the pictures, I would have to develop them and that costs money and I send a lot of pictures over the net.

Yes, it is quicker, but cheaper? In order to have the internet is to pay for it? Maybe I am wrong.

I remember writing to pen pals in school. For some reason I always got the pen pals who never seemed to write back. I have not heard of someone having a pen pal in a long time. I would love to have a pen pal especially one who would write back. I like writing letters and really love getting them back. I suppose it might be a little old fashioned with email now adays but writing actual letters seems to be more personal.

I would have to agree with writing a letter is more personal. I am not sure why they do not do pen pal's in school anymore.. Maybe the world has gotten alot more scary? There are so many phony people poseing to be someone they are not. I would love to have a pen pal to write just to release some of the thoughts I have that run through my little head..

I think I was in 5th grade when we did pen pals. I didn't know they no longer did them anymore. I guess my son has never said anything about sending letters to pen pals though.

I had a pen pal from USA (California) I think. I forgot her name. I really wonder what she is doing in her life right now. However I do remember her surname Pandolfino or something like that. I think Pen Pal encourages child to write so I don't see them as old fashion although emails have taken.

I think Pen Pal encourages a child to write, so I don't see it as old fashion. One has to admite that emails have taken over normal letters.

i think having penpals are great! you get to know someone and exchange stories and stuff. i used to have a lot of penpals when i was in school too. we used to write letters and exchange emails. nowadays i'm still writing to a few of them, but we stay in touch via emails and IMs too..

I never had a pen pal, surprising as it may sound. I wasn't born in the internet age, so i had a lot of time to develop a pen pal. I don't know why I never had one. I do like writing letters though. I'd have letters for my schoolmates at least once a week when I was still in high school. That was as close as I got to having a pen pal. During college, emailing and online chatting became the rage so the letters stopped coming. I do write notes once in a while like during birthdays, but I don't mail any anymore. I think it's outdated, costly, and not time efficient.

Yes I have a pen pal, he was from India and his name is Devon Chakma. I met him here online and since it was almost Xmas, he sent me some cards. and then i wrote him back too. Although having a pen pal is old fashioned, it is more valuable for me than chatting online because I appreciate it more when a person spends his/her time and effort in writing to me. You will feel the emotion on each strokes and you know that he/she had a hard time choosing on what paper and pen to use and that is he/she is also anticipating on when the letter will come to you, if you like what he/she wrote and then if you will reply to his/her mail. It is more exciting for me to receive a snail mail than an email.

i don't think somebody who has a pen friend is old fashino! in mordern time people contact by the internet . on one hand it make distance of friends near field but another hand we forget character's flavor. besides this we have smoething unconvinient to tell our friends nearby. when the deep night comes down i want say to myself something i always write them down. and send them to my pen pal. by the way i acquaintented my boy friend by it .so i hope you and your pen friends have a nice relation . thanks for your topic! i desire i could be your friend on line.

Yes, first of all, snail mail is soooooo old and sooooo slow. You are soooo not living in the 21st century if you still do snail mail. Do email instead. :)

I had a pen pal in the 3rd grade. I didn't enjoy it much, but back then i wasn't exactly an aspired writer. I also think that peple have lost common skills like writing and penmanship, mostly because of what we are doing right now; disscusing on the internet. So yes, I belive it is a bit old fashioned, but also I think that it is a good intrest to have.

no having pen pal is not old fashion. but after internet came ,people are less interested in pen pal. but some are continuing the pen pal friendship from more days.
now we should not feel old fashioned one .pen pal is good creativy to us. because we can know about more countries ,when we have friendship with more country people. so i like to make pen pal with other country people rather than same country people.

I remember those days. I had several pen pals and I loved writing to them and recieving their letters. I don't know as they do this in schools any longer. I think they should. It helps teach communication skills and writing skills as well. It is also a lot of fun. I loved to write and so this was a great pasttime for me. Now I think they rely so much on computer e-mail that many don't have any idea how to write a nice letter or even how wonderful it feels to get one in the mail.

I do consider that as an old fashion. Writing and then send it by mail will take how many days before it will be receive by the sender. A waste of time..Now that internet exist.. Wow..we can send message faster..Cellphones also are very helpful now in sending message..just text it or call then the message arrive at the same time. Very fast.

Back in college, I had a penpal from United Kingdom. I can still recall her name, she's Zahida Ebrahim. She's part English and part Indian. Never saw her pictures though but i think she's pretty. I met her through chat and we made it a lot more personal by sending REAL letters. It's pretty much old fashion but nobody can question it's effectiveness in a sense that it's a lot more personal than emails.

Pen-pals to me is never old fashion. You get to know someone better than just typing online. Plus, who knows, you can collect things from all around the world. I've had pen-pals from Australia, Canada, Japan, England... all over.
At this moment I don't have a pen-pal, but if the opportunity ever came up, I would definitely write them. It's a great way to meet new people without leaving your home!

No way, actually the fact that some people are still using paper and pen to deliver mail is a little reassuring to me, that means we are not all lost after all. I like getting a hand written letter more than a typed email, its more personal and took the person way more time then "copy and paste"
