Do tan shoes go with everything??

As we know, black shoes whether they be flats or heels can go with pretty much anything. But, one day as I was looking for an outfit I realized that my tan Vans didn't go with the particular shirt I was wearing.
Do you agree? And also, what colors does tan mesh best with?
