When "sweet" becomes "sour"...

Who among you watched the Imbestigador over channel 7 last night? It tackles about a sweet delicacy (panutsa--sweet peanuts) originated from Batangas. You have seen how it is being prepared--so yucky and I was so upset because I feel I was a victim too being this delicacy as one of my favorite. The whole working area is unsanitary, aside from the laborers, insects and pets roam around. Their equipment, utensils and working area are full of rust and dirt. They really don’t seem to include hygiene in their list of priorities. Glad that one consumer bought some samples to Imbestigador and you can see big flies and bees embedded on it. I'm mad, really mad about those people who manufacture it, if only i could slap them.. how could they do this to us consumers when we faithfully bought it at their price and brought it to our loved ones specially to our kids. So terrible! For those of you who haven't seen last night's episode, here's the video: http://www.gmanews.tv/largevideo/publicaffairs/28948/-Imbestigador--Sweet-Surprise

Yes I agree with you. It was my favorite too. Maybe I'll just buy at popular stalls at not on the street even thought it would cost a little. Before I even wanted to buy on street vendors because I know they need money more but after watching Imbestigador I don't have sympathy anymore for those unclean makers.

I guess so. But me and my officemates had disccussed earlier that foods sold in the street are somewhat tastier. We don't know why but take for example dirty ice cream. For me it's tasty. So is fishballs, kwek kwek (egg wrapped with flour), mangga with bagoong. I even love wanton noodles sold in the street. Oh well better be careful than sorry.

Good for me that my doctor advise me not to eat sweets anymore. But I really loved Panutsa too. Well I haven't had the chance to watch the show but thanks for informing me about it. I would tell my wife not buy it anymore if that is the case. Well I also watched on the other channel the bakery "Butterkrust" which also had similar situation. They featured about how unsanitary the place is so add that to the list of products to avoid too.

I also hope that the local government do their job in inspecting these businesses not just be strict on collecting taxes bu also monitor the cleanliness of their vicinity. I think they local government only moves when it is aired on TV that they make the necessary punishments on this establishments who do not do the necessary requirements this especially for those that are into food manufacturing.

yep, this is the problem if "cottage industries" are not regulated and checked. Reminds me of how they make donuts....

I watched that show but failed to switch back when i switched to ABS. There were also similar stories that Imbestigador had reported and as well XXX. And it's really good that they are exposing these works because that is so unfair for the consumers of those "sweets". It disgraces the name of the town that where they are operating and makes us think twice about the things that we buy. Not just that, the health hazards too. We do not even want a fly to go near our food. But some people can actually be or have eaten flies and bees with their sweets. That's really disgusting. I hope they'll expose more of them.

It's a good thing that there were people who complain and the program act accordingly. The media really have a great role in our society.

I have a sweet tooth too. Anyway, these unscrupulous food producers are just indications of a problematic and incompetent bureucracy. In short, the local government esp. the local sanitary inspectors did not do their job (as always). They are not effectively monitoring their constituents especially those engaged in food business. It always needs an "Imbestigador" to expose these activities.

I agree with you champ! This must be the job of barangay officials since it doesn't even had a permit to operate, so no way that the city hall inspectors would know it.
