Nowadays it sure pays to conserve on energy bills considering the increasing cost of electricity. Before, I would'nt mind turning off the television before I doze off to sleep; my sister would leave the lights on in their room while they sleep; we would iron clothes whenever we feel like it, among others. But now, we make sure to turn the tv off before sleeping, turn off lights when not needed, iron clothes once a week, turn on airconditioner only at night, and so on. We noticed that after our consistent efforts, our electricity bill reduced considerably. Now, we have become used to the cost saving measures we have adopted at home, and it sure did help paying for less. What about you? Do you also do this at home?

I've always been careful to not waste electricity, but lately I've begun to be even more careful. Most of the time in the evening, there is only one light on. I don't turn on the light in the bathroom unless I really need it (some things are done quite well in the dark!). I wait to turn the light on in the evening until I really can't see well enough without it. I don't own a TV, but this computer takes electricity, so I've been turning it off and unplugging it at night. There are many ways we can save electricity just by thinking about things before we do them.

That's right peavey! I myself sometimes turn off the lights while watching tv in my room. All these saving energy exercises has now become a system in our house. Thanks for sharing!

Yes saving begins at home. We too have taken several measures for cutting out wastages. apart from what you have mentioned we have also installed a automatic water regulator in the water tank which swithces off the pump before the water drains out from the tank. We are also pracitcing saving measures while cooking. Getting things out of the fridge around 15 minutes before it would be put on the burner allowing it to come to room temperature helps. Also keep the flame just below the container as the one which is visible at the sides is a wastage of almost 80%. Installation of T12 tubesets is another measure we have taken for powersaving. Keepin the mesh of the airfilters of the airconditioner neat and clean also helps on saving energy consumption. These are some of the things which we have implemented.

We've always done this. In schools in our province, we have an electricity saving program that comes around each year to teach children about the importance of saving electricity, and so for a lot of kids, it becomes natural.

Teaching kids to conserve is just great! As kids, they will easily learn the value of saving energy as they practice it at school and at home. Thanks for sharing cutepenguin!

yes, in fact we have the same kind of treatment prior and after, only a few bucks reduce from our bill. We usually had this tv watching late afternoon, to end of 10pm, on counterpart the internet keep progressing, 4 of us alternately using this computer, where an internet is attached to it. My washing is not operational, but my kid in a hurry, use the drier instead, done twice this month. Air conditioner is no longer operation, instead we have 2 fan to air us till morning. Lights still have to be in function, we can sleep in dark, other lights are open on the driveway. Ironing for clothes used in school & office.Where attached to electric gadgets, so we use the range for cooking rice. About 3-4 fluorescent light, we discourage using the bulb. We put the temp of ref into minimal cool 2, instead of electric water dispenser, we use container with faucet, to lessen a bit of electrical bill. Radio /Video were used occasionaly, when a bit bored on tv. The best way to a cost cutting measure, is go malling - 2 a week, you can cool off, even tension at home. anyway, you can be very busy window shopping. the absence at home, will cut using all the electrical gadget , while your kids out in the school. when you are to fetch kid, be sure you have prepared your food for the whole day, fridge it, and when you come back, you just put it in the microwave.
When you prepare food, find a technique that will not consume longer period.
