When you research on "witches" I suggest you look around your neighborhood. There are probably some right there and you would never know it.
They do not walk around with black dresses and brooms, they do not do animal sacrifices. The movies have people thinking that witches are evil and mean when indeed witches are like others that worship thier religion.
When you hear about spells you think ooooo this is bad and evil! If others would open thier eyes spells are nothing but prayers, "witches" do not prey to one god but ask for different elements to come together with goddesses. There are many books and I would suggest finding these books to give you an over all look at what some people consider evil. Read up on the Ancient religion and you will find alot of information and get an idea how witches think.

I would like to add that witchcraft and wicca are different as well. Today perhaps you find more number of wiccans than witches. Wicca can be thought of as the religious part of the craft.
Witchcraft basically has to do with nature and man's relationship with it, so of course it makes more sense and seems closer to 'God' in all respects. There are spells and herbology and invoking spirits at times as well, but it all depends on your level of the craft at which you currently are. I know of witches who prefer a group and some who practice only individually. Basically there is a lot of variety, and the first law "Do no harm" and the 3-fold law "any bad you do, comes back 3 fold to you" pretty much sum up the peaceful nature of witches

I just found this discussion as I am interested in becoming a witch and/or studying Wicca. I think it may truly be the right path for me.

Yes, witches are real. I haven't met any of them, but I find their way of live very interesting and how they practice the craft. Witches have nothing to do with Satan and they don't look like the ones on the movies of that I am sure.
Those who want to learn they should read as much as possible about being a witch before deciding if they want to be part of the craft.
