Do you judge the person online with his/her username?

How often do you do that? Do you look at the user name to turn off your decision to reply to his discussions/topics/messages? Or does it happen that you decide to reply him/her just because of the username he holds?
I don't get influenced by username... though, I do tend to turn off my decision to reply, when the silly username is of a newbie.... I sometimes even don't reply to a person with not so good profile pic... it happens that way... well, I am trying not to do that
Happy Mylotting...
Have a nice time!

the first (and main) reason i answer a discussion is because it is interesting, inviting and worth responding. so, as long as i think i can add something in the discussion, i will respond it, regardless how strange the user name of the starter. of course, a nice and 'readable' user name is more 'eye-pleasing' and i, in the early times on mylot tended to think that a user name represents the owner's personality. but now i realize that it doesn't. moreover, some users have really strange user names, containing only consonants plus some numbers. you will never succeed to read them but they are kind people, friendly, starting interesting topics, commenting nicely. in brief, their personalities presented on mylot makes us forget how funny their user names is...

Lol.. I used to think that certain users registered just to explore the world - not with the motive of becoming an active member really... so they used a foolish - stupid user name. However, with time they mixed with the community and became active enough to - may be - think that they should have used a proper user name. That's what I even did. Well, yours is a real name, right?

yes you are right. they may think to change their user names after enjoying being on mylot and interacting nicely with other users. but i see nothing wrong with your name. at least, for me it is like a name already regarding mine, well, that's an accident. when i filled the register form, i thought i have to use my real name as it will be connected with my paypal account etc. it will be great if i can change my user name, you know, something more up to date like russel crow or whatever LOL..

Well.. if the user name is well known for me I would answer it if I got the answer. Like you. I know you and when I saw your discussion up in the new discussion, I would surely answer it even sometimes I don't know what to say. Maybe I judge people or a user by the online experience I had with people with certain user name. LOL.

Yeah, we really come to know about the person from the online experience from with that person, but don't we have so kind of conception about the profile pic and the user name - we can atleast know how serious the person wants to be while he is at a particular place, and what is his motive behind...

Yes Amag, username is a user's name only and moreover it is a word or a coded phrase ready-made as per the user's choice. But the user, I mean the person is of most importance! Also, profile picture is not important, but I may say that it must carry some positive sense for all! It must be beautiful as well as praise worthy!
Thanks for this nice discussion!

Yours appears to me a unique discussions. I have not come across such a discussion. To me username does not make an affect on my response to a discussion. I simply read the discussion and if I find that I can reply to it and I have something to share on it, I just go for reply. Username does not exactly tell about a person, I feel. I once started a discussion on this subject - 'How did you select your user name?". I got different answers and different reasons for framing a user name. So the quality and contents of a post are more important than the member's user name.

Well, every time I response here in mylot it only means that I am interested in his/her discussion.. I don't used to check or read the username of the person whom I responding.. I don't even look at their profile or see their photo's.. what I'm after here is to know something new and to be able to express my views or ideas about the certain issue or topics.. Happy posting!

This seems to me very funny... I only reply to somebody post just because the topic is of my interest or when i think i can add to the discussion with my valuable thoughts and suggestions...
Sometimes might be answering to new comers may be as a source of inspiration and encouragement, but the usernames or profile pictures have never been my criterias for posting... Happy myLotting...

I dont...I am replying to all my friends post as long as I have knowledge about it but oftentimes, when it asked about an answer of a particular issue about medicine or so, I will just skip on it!
I am not persuaded by avatar or handle of any one here and I don't judge easily, I love to learn a bit about them and that will happen when we are exchanging few ideas and information about our personal life!

It seems interesting to discuss about personal lives, but however, discussing too much is harmful! lol. Your friends are lucky that you respond as many discussions of your friends as possible! So am I! Even I don't go after avatars - but when it is a very cool graphic, I do get attracted to it... love graphics really!@ lol... Thanks

hi amagnimo,
I choose discussion topics which interest me ... anything other than that is not important ...
Some newbie (we were like them once) - have to be support them, our seniors did .. Actually i found some interesting topics started by them ..
Recently - I have stopped discussing interesting topic started by some people because of their negative tendancies - "Only their point is right" or "Who are you to say otherwise" there are even some characters who like to insult you in their discussions.
so nowdays ... when i see their topics/discussion/messages or even the avatar .. i run away ... oops (they even mark negative to you and drop your stars down ...)
cheers

Well, thanks for not considering me one... . Yeah, some users do turn out to be that way, well, but I really stopped caring about my reputaion this days since it doesn't matter me much now... it is increasing, I am happy but the more I tend to improve it and look after it, the more slower is the improvement... Hence. Anyways, the topic should always matter.. and its great thats the case with you! Good luck and Have a nice time!

hi amagnimo, i usually respond to a discussion only after i feel that the discussion is good and also i feel like responding. i never judge a person based on his user name or profile photo and something like that. i don't like to reply to the same discussions that are repeated again and again. it purely depends on the topic that is started. happy mylotting!

NO never because names can not reflect the personality, behaviour, nature of any person. Because the main reason is that ...
Names are kept in childhood when a person is in his or her child age with differentn nature, height, wight, mood .. as he or she grows up the nature mood behaviour change .. So Atleast I do not judge peoples by their names.
Have a nice Time...

Well, you are quite right and honest in your response... But I am not talking about their real names - its their user names.... the user names with which they register. Amagnimo is not my real name - its just my screen name. And its an English word - which doesn't have any meaning at all - because I worked out with my synonyms and just blend a new word - with no motive of coining a new term, really... and that's my screen name. This topic was my motive to be discussed...
Thanks!

No I don't, not really. But if someones' username is like 'ilovechocolate', I'd pretty quick assume she/he likes chocolate :P

I use to have a little impression from a username. A silly username may be of a newbie, but see here you got the information that the person will likely be a newbie. Though I always verify my impression through further talks and discussions, but still I think we can have an idea from the username, of what the person is trying to be in the web world.

Yeah - very true about books really. Welcome to mylot anyways. People tend to keep funny user names really, but it doesn't seem so cool or good to see silly insensible names at all - there are people who would have filled a user name in random like 'aojcaks10905' - this letters were typed in random - my brain had no connection with what I was typing except for the impulse to move finger on keyboard and press the key whichever comes! lol.

hello,
well i do not think that there is any way we should judge the people by the user name . sometimes it is the actual name that they have. .... then can we judge the person by the actual name. ya some people are in the habits of putting some bombastic names as their user names and that they do for fun. so in no way i think that the screen name or the user name reflects their persona.

I try to know a person better before I pass on a judgment, whether he is a sincere person or not, whether he is to be trusted or not. I will not judge a book by its cover not a person by its username.

Wow... quite straight forward. But do you tend to have some views or ideas about the user when you read the user name or see the profile pic? Does your mind read the person's basic personality trait when you see that? I did think you to be straightforward and trustable when I first read your name - to be really honest. Well, but I haven't reached that level of understanding people that I can claim myself to be right. In fact, I know just one person who ACTUALLY can read people just from face... he did it with 8-10 people - he read the people's charecteristic from their photo. Wow! I mean, it wasn't anything that he used to bluff, he even tried that on me, and My gosh, all the things he said was true! Including what kind of things I Like! - Internet, Laptops, etc. He judged what kind of people I respect, and he even judged how I would be influenced by him! Really interesting that people have such talents. Hats off!

Since user names can be created from virtually anything, Amagnimo, I rarely think anything about them -unless they are particularly unusual. I wouldn't judge anyone by their choice even though I think some are quite silly.

Well. Quite true indeed - mine one is something like a creative thing - I sat with dictionaries and thesaurus to make up this word- which practically has no meaning, and is derived from a few words - I don't really remember them, just one I remember and that is magnanimous. But this is quite interesting to create new names - I love doing that... I used to do that when I used to make fan-spells in Harry Potter - the naming ritual of the spells and charms used to be my favorite part! lol... But is mine one silly, or looks grand? Or what does it indicate?

I don't pay alot of attention to screen names here in mylot. Although there are many (for instance yours) that I just don't understand. Perhaps because those people are from other countries. Rarely will I not respond just because of a name or pic used here. Now, in yahoo its different. When I chat there if I am messaged by someone with a crude, or overly graphic name or picture then I won't talk to them and put them on ignore. I mean some of those screen names and avatars used there can tell you alot about what the real person is like and why they are there.

Well, I am having nice time having responses from you... thanks! Lol. Yeah, sometimes people do have really silly username - mine's one of them too, but I haven't added the numbers which can really make someone think that I have registered by a silly name - cause many would think that this would be some regional word...lol

In most cases mostly people they just use user name opposite to their personality and specially when it comes to gender some disguise to opposite gender but you can still judge those who give their user name as (prince/lover/herny.......) they will only be flertting and some even uses different images
critics welcome

Well welcome to mylot, if you are gonna stay active...but its not always so... May be because many do register in that way, and you might know them... but I don't think there are people who use the opposite... Only a few who really want to be what they can't be... and they dont usually succeed in being a reputable and active user (atleast at mylot)...
