You have to qualify what a "hero" means and in my opinion, Manny cannot be labelled a "hero", maybe to his family, he is, but to the Philippines, I'm afraid not.
He just happened to be a very successful athlete in prize fighting (i.e., boxing). While he may be "carrying the flag" of the Philippines in every fight that he's into, remember that he is just doing it because it is his profession. For boxing afficianados, they enjoy watching Pacquiao just like watching dela Hoya, Cotto, Mayweather, Margarito, etc. For Pinoys who love boxing, it becomes an even more exhilirating feeling watching a fellow Pinoy who fights world-class fighters. Probably, this makes Pinoys proud. But other than that, Manny is just a boxer...a very (financially) successful one at that...but definitely not a hero.

Yes it is his profession but he don't only fight for his own glory, he fights with both arm carrying the Philippines. Every time he steps inside the ring, his fellow Filipinos are at full support to him, and that gives him the strength he need to make his foe sleep. And I notice that every time the fight is over he prays and thank God. He is humble and kind person, a very religious man, and a loving husband and father.
And thats the reason I consider him a hero, a great boxer and a great Filipino.

I respect your opinion. I am just stating mine. Maybe you just emulate Manny as an avid "fan", and he is "your" hero because of the traits that you see in him. I, too, watch his every match and I take pride in seeing a fellow Pinoy being successful and gaining the world's attention in the field of boxing. But to tag him as a "hero" is an overstatement. Again, 'just my opinion.

He's a good fighter, I'll give him that. He also donates a lot of money to charity. I wouldn't really consider him a hero but instead, more of an idol. He's a great boxer who has won a lot of fights against a lot of other great fighters in the Boxing industry. A lot of people look up to him because of this. But I don't think he is a hero just yet. He hasn't inspired great change in the country just yet.

If he was fighting everyday, then I guess it would be ok. What happens when he is not fighting? What would happen if he was to retire from boxing? What then?

Ok you win the talk!.... but cant you see the things he did to give our country honor. The way he fought for our country, the way he suffered the pain in every fight he fought, the way he gave our country a good looks to other nations. And how about the young children of his hometown that tries to get a glove just to follow the footsteps of their idol. He already inspired many youth to try wearing a glove and start practicing and somehow be as good as Manny. Isn't that a great inspiration he left.

Well Manny Pacquiao has indeed made his marked in the boxing arena. I am impressed by how he handles his career as well as his family. Although because of his fame I think there are some issues about his family that he is doing some miracles here and there but then you could still see in him his devotion to his family. I guess he is the only boxer that has porperly managed his money that he invested it quite okay as he has several properties to keep for himself and his family comfortable for the rest of their lives perhaps. What I really don't like it him being used by some politicians and is even urging him to run which I think is not yet fitted for him. I just hope that he would not allow himself to be used by these politicians.

I too dont want to see him as an politician... caused he is already doing so much help for our country, he dont need to prove something else anymore like being a pilitician. Uniting the filipinos every time he has a match is already a great help.
