Time to buy a new one? Nine years old is.. old! :P
My computer got a Asus P5K motherboard, 4096 MB RAM, one 250 GB HDD and one 500 GB HDD, E8400 3.0GHz overclocked to 3.6 GHz cooled by a Zalman CNPS9500 LED Ultra Quiet CPU cooler. XFX 8800GT cooled by a Thermaltake Duorb VGA cooler. This is powered by a Crosair 650W PSU. And all this is inside a Antec Nine Hundred cabinet. To view all this power, I got a 22" screen :)
Almost half a year old now.

That is draggy for hungry resource applications like graphics and multimedia programs but I think its well enough for word processing, spreadsheet and internet browsing. I am thinking of reviving my P3 because it consume less power, its more durable and produce less heat than new ones. I'm currently using a little bit younger than yours but considered old too according to current standards, its an AMD Sempron 1500mhz with 512mb or RAM. So I would say you are not alone.)
