If your Family's life is at stake, would you be willing to give your life?

I was watching FELON, its a wonderful heart-warming story of a man who was put in prison for killing an intruder who break into his house and was sentenced to three to seven years undergoing a hard, tough life in jail.
The idea caught me aback, one part of our human instinct amazes me is our ability to defend and give our life for a family or someone we love the most at all cost. That is my own thought though, that might not be a conclusive generalization i guess, but anyway, How far can you give your life for someone?
Thoughts anyone?

If someone broke into my house, I know I'd go apeshit. I know this because a few years ago when the kids were little, we took them to the beach where we had a picnic. On our way back to the van to collect the snorkelling equipment, we found some people breaking into the van and taking our stuff! Three of the youths were disappearing into the undergrowth with our crate of gear, and I plunged in after them and confronted them. Meanwhile, a woman was threatening my husband with a large screwdriver she'd taken from OUR VAN - telling him she was going to stab him in the f***ing throat with it! They were a charming bunch - but I took our things back, and I was so furious at being violated I know if anyone was in our home without our permission, taking our things, I'd give them a good kick up the jacksie or worse!

I would give up my life to save anyone I loved- some of my friends, and definitely my family. In fact, i've told my mom and sister that if someone ever tried to hurt them, I would take the bullet for them. Granted, a mother would save her children at any cost, but I wouldn't want my mom to end up dying and my sister and I be left to carry on. We have a very close relationship with our mom, and so I would die to save them.

Hi Torchablazed!
This is a nice discussion. Thanks.
Family is a wonderful thing. At the end of the day you know some people are there to accept you no matter what. And sacrificing one's life as to getting oneself killed to save family comes spontaneously, in most cases. The fear of losing your loved ones is the greatest of all fears and that probably explains it all.
Physical sacrifice as in dying, is perhaps bit too hard but we all sacrifice ourselves emotionally so many times. Emotional sacrifice cannot be measured or seen but trust me it kills us and that too so many times in our lifetime!!
Thanks.

I'd do anything for the ones I love!
Protecting others from harm seems to a part of loving them.
Maybe that is one of the reasons I like the Laws in Texas.
They allow you to protect your home from intruders.
All states & countries should do the same thing.

One can get a true measure of how strongly one feels about this only at adverse times. Although I have not reached a life threatning or giving situation, there have been instances that i have put myself forward at those times whenever there was any form of pressure or threat. An all the times it has been unhesitatingly and without fear. So i guess if I were ever faced with the situation I would be willing to give my life.

I haven't watched Felon before or even heard of it. But I think I would be willing to protect my family with my life yeah. It is a instinct that most people have who love someone and want to only save them from harm. I would fight tooth and nail to save those whom I love and if that means jail time then so be it, atleast they would be safe.

For me, it would depend on the situation, but in most respects if it came between saving my husband or my life, I would choose to try and save his, and then depend on God from there as to what happens next. To me, my husband is everything and if I could choose extending his life for some time more it is truly worth it.

Yeah, these are some of the situations beyond our reach all we have is to trust God as we do our share for the family. Bless you my friend.

I would die for any of my family, just as long as I know that they still have each other to take care of. But if I know that if I die and no one else would be there for that family member, then I would fight for both our lives.

If my family members life is at stake i will do the same too. Though i wonder why that person was in prison when he was just protecting his family and the person is an intruder. Obviously he should not be in prison for defending himself and his family. My hubby told me that if ever somebody get inside our house he will shot him without any hesitation. And if ever the person is inside the house if he needs to push me to jump the window he will do it to protect me lol But honestly i will do the same if ever my hubby is in a bad situation. I think we cant let anything bad happen to our love ones. We can do anything impossible possible just to keep them safe.

I would do anything I had to in order to protect my family. I wouldn't hesitate a moment if they were in danger and if I had to kill someone I would. If I had to lose my own life, no problem. I've put myself in danger before for my sons and I know that no thought of my own life or injuries comes to mind when I'm protecting them.

I wouldn't have any problem whatsoever killing to protect my family. Years ago there was a story in the news about the parents of a child forgiving the man who had murdered their child. The guy had tortured and raped their daughter and then killed her. My son saw the story and asked what we as his parents would do. I calmly told him that I would never forgive someone like that, and that if the courts didn't take care of him, I would. I told my son anyone who ever hurt him like that would simply disappear, never to be seen again. My son knows I meant it. Just as he knows he too would do the same thing for his childenn he now has.

Yeah I heard stories like that too and I hardly cannot fathomed why such forgiveness overflows in their hearts inspite of what happen, we are human it is hard for us to do that, as much as we could we would do what we can do for the best interest of our loved ones.
