Do You Ever Wish That You Had The Ability To Hibernate?

I'm celebrating the end of Summer (Hate It) and all of it's miseries... Wouldn't it be great if you could just go into Hibernation for three months during the season that you dislike? I'm not saying that there aren't things about Summer that I don't enjoy, but there are a bunch of things about it that I can do without! I really wouldn't mind going into a cool mountain cave and just "Hibernating" (Hiber means Winter) through those hot, humid and violent months that seem to bring the worst out of everyone this town. Imagine that you could simply curl up on a soft bed of leaves and flowers, and snooze away? You could save yourself a bundle of bucks 'cuz you wouldn't need to eat or use an A/C, or drive your car in traffic with the crazies! It's been known that we Humans did once have this ability, and some of us still have some biological indications if it in our bodies and habits, such as when we catch the flu or bad colds-- We tend to sleep a lot until our bodies heal themselves from these stressors. Other folks might notice that they tend to instinctively eat more during the period before their Hibernation is supposed to take place... Ever notice those bigger portions during the holidays? Well anyway, this discussion is meant to be a bit humourous and lighthearted... It is meant to make you giggle about all of the stuff that you wouldn't have to put up with if you could simply Hibernate for three months out of the year... Yes, you Einsteins among us are welcome to chime in with your theories (He was great at math, but sucked at Biology) as well as you fun minded folks! I'd love to hear what you have to say! :) BTW: You can choose ANY season or length of time, or reason why you would like to Hibernate... Have fun with this one! :)

So THAT'S why I have to use a stick to poke Tony with if I need to wake him before noon... Clears up a *lot* I would *love* to be able to hibernate... hell, I'd love to be able to just lay my head down and close my eyes and just ... *sleep* I've been an insomniac since the age of 8. Yes, I know why. I didn't start sleeping well until relatively recently: since about 2003. Yep, it took losing 3/4 of my right leg which had the affect of forcing routine kicking and screaming down my throat -- mostly because I lived in a convalescent hospital for 2 1/2 years after my leg was amputated, and there's nothing like a hospital for routine. *shivers!!* Y'know how you can't pee if someone's watching? or the water doesn't boil if you watch it? or it's harder to come when someone's hurrying you along? Yeah. Try sleeping on command. I soo envy all my lovers -- every, single last one of them, dammit -- their apparent narcolepsy-on-command. It runs particularly strongly in the male persuasion of the species, according to MY accumulated data... but is NOT singularly indicated by the XY chromasome. Curious... to say the least... Ah! But to hibernate! Now, there's a lofty aspiration...

That is a brilliant response, Lori ... and I'm sure that you might be right about us guys wanting to sleep a lot, especially after "play " time! LOL! Funny, you should mention it, but there are a few "Ladies " on another site who make a decent living from peeing for an audience... LOL!

Hi peaceful! I think if I was going to hibernate I probably would pick the winter! I hate when it's really hot, but I also hate the really cold winter weather. I don't like to be really cold. It gets so cold here in NY in the winter and I hate the ice! I'm so afraid of falling and breaking something. I'm very breakable you know! I would perfer to sleep during the winter. I think I'd rather take my chances on the hot summer weather even though I hate being really hot. For some reason I find that it's even harder as I get older to warm up and the cold just keeps getting colder and it hurts! The last few winters have been brutal! We've had so many days where the wind chill factor has been way below zero and I just can't take it! It hurts to be out even for a few minutes in that kind of cold and there is no way to keep warm. So there you have my answer!

The Winters in PA. have been strangely mild and short... They will cause me to wear a coat, but I manage to stay warm because I like walking a lot! Maybe you should Hibernate this year, Opal! I've heard that NY winters are super-freezing but if you could sleep through them and then wake up on the first day of Spring, you'll probably feel a lot younger and refreshed... Ready to take on the world and any project that you might think of... And think of the possiblities of a Biological Clock that has had three months to re-set itself! Watch Out World!

The sense of season including ability to insulate, hibernate, and winter sleep is a real human sense. It is one of the 9 radiation senses and perfectly natural for you to feel this way. We live such nature disconnected lives that many of 80 human senses lie dormant like an atrophied muscle, poor senses. This disconnection causes many of the ailments that plagues our society and sadly enough many don't even know how to use them or even identify with them anymore. The more you use your natural senses the more they work in harmony. If you feel the need to hibernate, listen to your body. You will only sleep as long as you truly need to and will only pack on the extra weight your body needs to insulate as long as you listen to what your body needs. To deny the senses is to truly deny yourself. Enjoy a cup of chamomile tea and have a nice rest.

I wholeheartedly agree, Annamcarra! :) I have much more of my Natural senses actively operating when I am in a peaceful and natural place... Urban "Life" is incredibly stultifying and confusion reigns supreme over restless minds-- These conditions certainly won't foster sensual growth and development. A good long rest, in a place of Natural Beauty, is needed, wanted and Welcomed!
