What is the suitable age to buy a computer for children?

Hi sabahking, To me kids should not be allowed to use a computer but to read and write and learn to use their brains instead of depending on computers and I think kids should start using computers at the age of 17, when you got started. Tamara

sixteen should be a good age for children to get a computer they are more aware of it's cons and pros and also its easy for parents to help them out and to guide them

I think any age is suitable for their own computer, however, that is if the parents are willing to teach their child proper usage if the parents are going to allow that computer to be connected to the internet, and proper parental controls are put in place to keep children from viewing content that is intended for maturer audiences.

I know what you are worrying about, but I don't think there can be a definite answer. If not get addicted, any age is OK.

At this time the technology is no longer a luxury like computer it is one of the necessity in the School and I bring a computer for my children at an early age and they were already using a computer subject at this time for my Son he is still in the first year High School but they already have a Microsoft subject like word and Excel........and my Son is now 13 years old and he have a computer when he is 9....

well they have computers in preschool now which they only have learning games on them so i wouls say 4-5 years old i mean i wouldn't go out and buy a brand new one but get them a used one and put games on it to teach them how to be independant on one and when you want to show them something online just use your comp. then just but them a new one when they are ready.
