I've just recently been introduced to Canola oil by one of my very much pregnant friend. We were doing groceries together one day and as we went to the cooking oil section she tells me that Canola oil is actually healthier than other type of oils according to her doctor and she was highly recommended to use it because it didn't have transfat, cholesterol etc., in short nothing unhealthy. So that being said I decided to take a shot and buy my first canola oil bottle.
After a few days, I decided to use it and first thing I noticed it actually had this funny smell well not like the regular cooking oil I used back then. Second, the bottle didn't have any description as from what exactly canola oil is made of. I thought it strange, 'cause olive oil comes from olives, coconut oil comes from coconut, but canola oil where does it comes from? is canola a fruit or a plant? hmm.. that was kinda peculiar.
So I decided to do some research online y'know out of curiosity as to what it is really made of, and soon enough I was directed to informations both pros and cons to canola oil. What really got me thinking though was all those informations saying that canola oil comes from rapeseed which is actually used for industrial purposes like in the production of insecticides and that using it can cause damage to both humans and animals.
That made me really really confused as to whether canola oil is indeed a healthier alternative from the other cooking oils in the market. Fellow mylotters do you have any insights that would help me be enlightened as to whether Canola oil is indeed healthy or not??p.s: hope to hear from you guys, from the time being I'll be reverting to my old cooking oil product before continuing using canola oil.

Hi aquarina! Hope you're having a great day/night! yeah I have to agree with you on that. Personally I do think that nothing actually really beats extra virgin olive oil 'cause it's one of the best in the market and it also happens to be one of my fave. I really love how it's so tasty yet healthy (without the added guilt..hehe) especially with salads, at times I even use it as a dip for bread.. hehe.

Hi habichuelo!!
Unfortunately sesame oil isn't that readily available here I think it's because it isn't as widely used here as it is in other countries, but thanks for the tip. If ever I'll get the chance to find some here at my local supermarket I will sure try it. Thanks again! Have a good one! ^___^

This is helpful information, but I do not remember having come accross a canola fruit, I wonder if this fruit really does exist? This adds up to my curiosity. ^_^
I just don't mind really if it is pricey at least it really meets its promise that it's indeed the healthiest alternative from all other cooking oil. I wouldn't want using something cheap but later would end up paying much more because of the longterm damage it'll cause to my body. lol. =)
