In India we have been taught to walk through the pavement keeping us to the left. I have heard that it is just the opposite in the USA. People there are to walk along the right side. I want to know why it is so. Will you please tell ?

People usually keep to the right when walking on sidewalks or in shopping malls or shopping centers in the United States. This is because in the US, people drive on the right side of the road. I will add that if someone is walking in the street, they are supposed to walk on the left side because then you can see cars that are coming your direction, so it is safer.
