Joe Biden, the democratic nominee for vice-president opened his mouth and put one foot in it last week when he touted higher taxes on the rich as "patriotic"! Well, Joe must have thought the one foot in his mouth was lonely because he proceeded to stick the other one in it today! http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122204158558561239.html

Rodney, I believe I get it but I am not sure if the American people get it. First on the article, it was on the Opinion section and I couldn't find the name of the author but forget that for now. The big thing here is should the rich pay more taxes. Wellllllllllll I for one vote yes. How much more.... a bunch more. My own personal belief is we should go to a flat tax. Let no one get a tax deduction. I believe that Obama has the answer. Let the richest 5% have a tax increase and the lower 95% get a tax deduction. :-) By the way, I am in the lower 95% .... what about you.

That 5% was an exaggeration by Obama. Factcheck.org clarified that it was actually more like the richest 19%. It's also been proven that his tax hikes won't be enough to offset his costs. I'm sure he'll gradually raise more and more taxes to fund his programs. He can't really "raise" taxes on poor people because they aren't paying hardly any to begin with. It's just his socialist plan for redistribution of wealth. Rob Peter to pay Paul.

4magoo, Thanks for the comment. To answer your question, by Obama's standards, I am in the lower 95% but I am one of the people who believes that if you start overtaxing the people with money they just circle the wagons and we, the lower 95%, end up paying for it in the end! This is not scare tactics it is just reality! If I am a big business owner and my profit margin is say 15% and the government wants to cut into that with higher taxes, do you think I am just going to be a nice guy and absorb those taxes, "take one for the team" so to speak? Of course not and how do I re-coup those losses? You guessed it, I raise my prices and the consumer loses, again! This is the part of economics that Obama and most democrats DO NOT, and NEVER WILL understand!

You know I am not sure that he is that far off the mark. We all have different ways of supporting our government. Most of us are not in uniform, but that does not mean we can't play a role. If I lived in a family burdened by serious debt, I think I would consider it my duty to work with the rest of my family to get out of debt. I think most members of the family would expect people with more resources to help out a bit more, but everyone would still be expected to do something to help. If some of our citizens make $42,000,000 even when their companies fail under their leadership (Carly F at HP), maybe they can at least do a really fair share in helping out the country when their policies get Wall Street and Main Street in trouble. As for Jesus helping the downtrodden, I think the Bible is full of instances that show he did. That's where the concepts of unionism came from--a fair wage for work rendered, a living wage, that would support a family. Of course back then, CEOs did not earn in one day what some of their employees do in an entire year.

Magnolia, Thanks for the comment. This is not about families helping each other in times of need this about the difference between a capitalistic, free trade society which we (America) are right now and socialism, what we never ever want to be; and I'll tell you why. Socialism, by definition breeds apathy! If you work real hard and get the same amount of reward as a person who does little or nothing at all it tends to make you not want to work hard. If I put up all of the money for buildings, inventory, and provide good jobs for many people, I expect to be able to reap my rewards. When that become impossible to do, I am going to stop employing as many people as I need to until my rewards match my goals and if I STILL can't realize a profit, I will close my doors altogether!

He obviously does not put HIS OWN money where his mouth is...quote "Mr. Biden and his wife recently released their tax returns, and they reported an average of $380, or 0.2% of their income, in annual charitable contributions over a 10-year period. The national average was about 2% of income."

Well, that article pretty much sums it all up. As I understand it, the Catholic Church leaders are still at issue with Biden over his abortion stance... or lack of a public stance as it were. How they will react to this bit of blasphemy is anyone's guess. Maybe with both feet in there like that, he won't be able to make many more gaffes... or Obama could sew his lips shut.

Destiny, Thanks for the comment. Talk about the republicans being afraid of what Palin might say!? The democrats may have to actually sew his lips shut like you say!

Oops! Now the cat is out of the bag and everyone knows what the liberals' plans are on taxation of the American people. What we've been hearing is they will raise taxes on the rich only, but surely they will want everyone to be "patriotic" and do their part for their country. Maybe they will send Biden to England until November, like they did Bill Clinton until the DNC was kicked off.

Clrumfelt, Thanks for the comment. No, I don't believe Obama will be sending Joe anywhere since Joe is the leader of this ticket.
