Would you cancel a movie because of a real life drama?

A friend of mine who is into movies, has been working hard to put up a movie with the cooperation of his colleagues for the past months. I was amazed that with little resources he managed to produce something good on an amateur level. His movies are shown at an annual social event organised at his place of work.
In one of the scenes, a woman appears to be weeping on the grave of her husband. Unfortunately six months later, this woman a colleague of his, lost her husband due to a terminal illness. Some of his colleagues were against that his movie will be shown, since it might be offensive to their colleague concerned. Others had a different opinion and maintained that the movie has to be shown, since it entailed a lot of preparation and hard work.

HI ronald,
I will talk first to this colleague and inform her that we are going to show the movie and it has nothing against here and I am sure that she will understand since she knows the effort and time invested in coming up with such movie and I am sure that she is open-minded enough!

I would because it would be out of respect for a colleague, friend etc, unless the person who had their loss wanted it to go ahead, I think it would be up to them, if they were going to see the film in the first place then it would be the best thing to ask them if the film should be stopped because of what has happened, they might be happy for it to go on or they might thank you for taking their feelings into account.

There have been movies canceled due to large scale similarities. In the case of your friend, though, I would thoughtfully ask the woman involved how she would feel about it being shown. It might be an emotional release for her. I am not sure how I would feel, and I have actually lost a husband due to a terminal illness. I think, for me, I could separate the art from the reality.

That's the best idea, talking with her asking her for her blessing so that the movie can be shown. My friend is finding it hard to dump the enormous time invested in it.

so is his colleague the same woman in the movie?
if so then maybe asking her is a good idea
but I don't see anything offensive by keep showing the movie I mean it was just a scene, nothing inappropriate that will hurt her feelings

Hi ronald-I have heard of a movie being cancelled after being made due to a similar situation of this lady just out of respect but later when she agreed that it was alright for it to be shown...maybe that is what should happen with this movie...littleowl
