Growing up we had one phone in the house. We shared the line with our neighbours. It was called a party line. If we weren't home and something important came up we would use a pay phone for a dime and talk as long as we wanted.
Now everyone has a freakin cell phone attached to their ear. What can be so important? Who are they taking to? What can't wait until a better time? You see people taking on their cells while waiting in line at the store. You see two people walking together down the road and each of them carrying on conversations on their cell phones. How social is that? Or is it too social. I'll be driving the cab and people say things to you but you are never sure if it is you they are talking to or someone on their phones! Drives me nuts. We have one employee in the office that talks to some guy she met online on her cell while she kinda works. What has this world come to? I also wonder how difficult it is to pull over to the side of the road to talk on your freakin phone. How many times have you witnessed people driving like morons because they are on the phone. Pull the F over people!
So who are these people talking to and what is so important it can't wait?

Hi whywiki, I often wonder the same think myself, and I rarely use a cell phone, but I don't think my wife could live without it. I guess we all really know what happens, once something is introduced to people the manufactures and retails make sure they get hooked on it. It only takes two or three years and most people feel they can't manage without it. When I was a kid if I had to tell my parents something I had to wait until I got home, now all the kids have cell phones. It's called progress - but I'm not so sure. Blessings.

Yes I agree, we see a lot of people carrying cell phones and making it a look they are busy talking to someone. I think they just got into this habit of using these cells.
What drives me nuts is that every person tries to get a new cell phone that just came out for the market and they tried to make themselves look nice. But if you are looking at this deeper you realize that you don't have too have a cell phone that is really expensive and has a lot of features in because features are something that companies going to have money for that's why for useless cell phone you have two pay a lot of money. For me personally I have a cheap cell phone for five years already and I am happy with that. The cell phone should be a device to communicate with the people thing such as features are just useless and made in order to lift the price of unit.

It's crazy ain't it? Actually it would be my biggest nightmare if people were constantly calling me (or texting me)!! Yikes. I notice it too.. all the people walking around talking on their phones.. or staring at their phones.. I'm really curious as to what's coming next?

My parents didnt get a phone in the house till 3 years after I left home. As you say, if you needed to make a call you used the phone box. Then it got so a lot of the pay phones were vandalised and nowadays there seem to be very few around. I'm forever seeing people talking on the phone whilst driving - despite the fact that its illegal here! I find mine useful for keeping in touch with my sons who dont have landlines but I can go days, sometimes weeks without putting the thing to my ear (hence, I'm on pay-as-you-go') I'm not that keen on everyone hearing my conversations - or on hearing everyone elses!
