don't you just hate it when you start reading a book and it just doesn't capture you at all. I am reading one at the moment that is just hard work for me. I can't get involved with the characters, I don't care about the plot and there is absolutely no tension in it for me. What is it that makes a book enjoyable for you? For me it is characters that step off the page and involve me in their lives. What about you?

My cousin was raving about how awesome this one author was and i just so happened to have one of her books, so it was moved up on my to be read list. I was a third of the way through it when i finally gave up on it. I found it boring, and thats putting it nicely. I told my cousin how i tried and just couldn't do it. He agreed that they start off kind of boring but do get a lot better. I am sorry but i am the type that if i can't get into it in the first few pages, i usually give up on it, no matter who's recommendation.

Yes, when that happens to me i just drop the book and get another one. When i look for a book to buy, i take a read of the first 2 pages and after reading these first two and i can't let go then i know it will be a good read. The characters, the plot and the story make me enjoy the book that i am reading.Happy reading my friend!

I've read quite a few books where it takes days, or even weeks just to get through the first few chapters but all of a sudden I'm hooked. This recently happened with Jodi Picoult's Nineteen minutes. I heard a lot of good things about it, but I've never been personally affected by school shootings (of course I think about it, but it's never been too close to home). It took a while, but I did get hooked and I'm glad I did, it was great!
I do have a book that I've started a few times but just have no interest.
I'm not sure what keeps my attention. I do know that if I keep thinking about what happens next when I have to put it down, I'm finishing it soon. I need to be able to picture everything like a TV show, or movie.
What's worse than not connecting, is connecting only to find out the end is beyond horrible and leaves you mad.
