I am currently using Kaspersky 2009 in the office and Avast Home at home. Both are really good. I prefer Avast though because it is free. All you have to do is download it from their website and then register with them. They will then send you a key that you will input after installing Avast in your computer. The best thing about Avast for me is, it allows you to run boot-time scans. These scans allow you to scan your computer before your operating system even starts so that the scan could check system files for any infections.

Well, If you want simplicity and very good security, I recommend Norton 360. It's an all in one suite that not only protects your computer, but also optimizes it with tools such as super fast backups and de-fragmentations. If you want extreme security, but a more complicated user interface, I recommend McAfee. Also, a good way to prevent virus from entering your computer is to use a secure browser. I highly recommend Firefox 3 with NoScript and Adblock Addons. Finally, a third party firewall is key, as Microsoft's default isn't very good. Norton Suites usually include one, but you can get a free one at Zone Alarm that's great, but can be annoying, because each time you do something new, it asks you for authorization. Hope this helps... Cheers...

Hi, I had bad experiences with NOD32.. I though that it was a good antivirus until a virus make my brother computer crash on every boot. Now I use at my work AVG antivirus and until now nothing wrong has happened.. At home I use avast antivirus and combined with zonealarm works great!

I will say go for either McAfee or the Avira Anti vir both are good and free. Norton and avg both are way behind as compared to antivir plus their free versions are doomed and are not of much use.
