Just heard this on the news...It seems a kitty somehow managed to get itself caught up on one of those tall Highway signs at an interstate in San Diego, Ca. How that kitty got up there is a mystery and it's not known if its a stray or belonged to someone. Many people spotting it, called 911, who then contacted Animal Care & Control. It took the rescuers about an hour to cut through the fencing to create a big enough hole to be able to grab the kitty to safety. A short article about it is here http://www.wxow.com/Global/story.asp?S=9049437&nav=menu1366_2_6 And a video of the rescue itself is here..click on the link that says Kitten's Road Trouble http://abcnews.go.com/search?searchtext=%20Cat%20rescued%20from%20Highway%20sign%20in%20san%20diego%2C%20ca%20&type= I just wanted to share this story.....after all in these wacko times where our financial well being is being tested with all the dire things going on on Wall Street...taking time to hear about a rescue of a cat in its own precarious dire straights situation is a nice one for a change {The links here are not referrals but links connected to this story}

The roomie was telling me about this yesterday. I'm glad they got her safely out of the situation.

It's nice to see animal care and control personnel doing the jobs they are paid for, for once. Sadly here in my area, if one sees an injured or stuck animal it basically gets ignored, unless the person who found it is caring enough to try and help it. I know some cats like to get up onto high places, cause they feel safer up there, but the places they pick are not always the best places for getting back down either. The only real way I can figure that cat got up there in the first place is he/she may have been walking along the fence and lost it's balance, thankfully the sign post was there to save it and keep it safe til proper rescue came.

Hi there... I just saw this on the news and wondered myself how in the world that cat got onto that highway sign as well. I was so relieved to see that they were able to safely rescue her. She looked happy to see someone too by the nudge she gave the rescuer.

If only that cat could talk. I think it is wonderful that animal control cut the hole in the fence to get the kitty out. I hope the owner will see that and come forward or that the cat will get a great home.

Great Show! - I love watching the animal planet!!
To know that someone cares enough to even call 911 says a lot and then for someone to come out to help says even more! BRAVO!! I love hearing about things like this!! Every week day at 11am I watch Animal Rescues on the Animal Planet because they have some awesome stories!! I'm on Dish Network by the way so depending if you're on the same is whether or not you get it. My parents are a half hour down the road from me and they have Direct TV and they don't get the same shows as we do. But you should get it although it may not be at the same time but still, you should get it too.

you know its always amazing to me how cats get some of these places. i strongly suspect some people may throw them in some of these places like this one. but, once we lived upstairs on 3rd floor. I got up in the morn and couldnt find Cupid our cat. i never let him out, but someone had let him slip out. because he was outside on top of the window air conditionerno one knows how he got there unless he jumped from the balcony to it. but that was a big jump. my son held on to my other son, so he could lean way out and grab him. it was scarey.

OMG---now Cupid was a "bad" kitty..LOL. Yikes it was a wonder your sons didn't break their necks trying to rescue Cupid..I bet after he was saved he just looked at you with that smug kitty expression. "What's all the fuss about?" kind of look...right?

Hey pye, It always does my heart good to hear these kinds of stories about the saving of another kitty! I just wish those kittys could stay out of trouble! I hope that it it was a stray someone took it home and is taking good care of it. And if it is some stupid person's cat that they give it to someone who will take better care of it so that the poor thing doesn't end up getting into that kind of situation again! Why is it that we just seem to want to save all the animals in the world? I wish you and on could!

Wouldn't it be great if we had the finances to open up a kitty rescue place? It takes a lot of money and a lot of work and effort, but I could see the two of us doing something like that, don't you?

Oh pye! I sure could and we would end up taking them all home! We'd be fighting over who should take which ones home, like we really had the room!lol

One thing that I learned about cats when I used to have 10 cats who stayed with me a few years back is that they are a great climber but they are the worst when it comes to getting down from the place that they climbed up to. There was once I had to call up the fire department as one of my cats got stuck in the balcony of a unit on the third floor and it so happened that the people who lived there had gone for vacation. The fire department came with a big truck equipped with high rise ladder and by the time they got to my cat, she jumped on the fireman and made her way down via the ladder... Anyway, I just could help remembering that event when I read your post. I am glad that the poor kitty had been rescued and hopefully kitty will find a good home to stay now. Thanks for sharing this wonderful news!

I'm just picturing your one cat walking down the steps of the fire ladder...with the attitude of what's all this fuss about? Glad they were able to get your cat down to safety
